Hong Kong Film Awards Announces Categories and Nominees for 2024 Edition

Heads up! The nominees for the Hong Kong Film Awards 2024 have been unveiled today. Set to take place on Apr. 14, the annual awards ceremony aims to recognize locally produced films, directors, actors, and more.

There are 19 categories for its 42nd edition, including Best Film, Best Director, and more – with Lawrence Kan’s newsroom drama “In Broad Daylight” emerging as the frontrunner, boasting an impressive tally of over 16 nominations. Next to “In Broad Daylight” are “Time Still Turns the Pages” and “The Goldfinger” with 12 nominations each. Out of 19 categories, both “Mad Fate” and “A Guilty Conscience” took ten nominations.

For the Best Director, the nominees are the directors of the movies mentioned above, namely Lawrence Kwan (In Broad Daylight), Nick Cheuk (Time Still Turn Pages), Soi Cheang (Mad Fate), Felix Chong (The Goldfinger), and Jack Ng (A Guilty Conscience). All five of the mentioned films are also running for the Best Screenplay and Best Film Editing awards.

For the acting nominations, there are five categories: Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and Best New Performer.

Running for the Best Actor award are Bowie Lam for “In Broad Daylight,” Lo Chun Yip for “Time Still Turns The Pages,” Tony Leung for “The Goldfinger,” Dayo Wong for “A Guilty Conscience,” and Da Peng for “Dust to Dust.”

Meanwhile, Kay Tse for “Band Four,” Michelle Wai for “Ready O/R Rot,” Jennifer Yu for “In Broad Daylight,” Louise Wong for “A Guilty Conscience,” and Chung Suet Ying for “The Lyricist Wannabe” are the nominees for the Best Actress award.
