Hong Kong Model Noel Li Shares His Travel Stories and Style Inspirations

Noel Li is a unique influencer in the online world of Hong Kong, defining what it means to report on fashion and travel in the city and globally.

The Taiwanese-born and Hong Kong-bred lifestyle influencer, who has worked with fashion brands Valentino, Dior, Tudor, Fendi and Prada, is known for his cheeky and down-to-earth travel photos and stylish fits shown to his engaged followers.

Before Noel jets off somewhere else in his high-flying modelling life, The Beat Asia interviewed the Hong Kong model to understand his influences and story of how he became a beloved fashion and travel blogger.

For those who do not know you, who is Noel Li?

I am Noel LHY! Many people in my audience recognise me as a blogger and influencer focused on travel, fashion, and lifestyle. I love sharing captivating destinations, especially those visually appealing and perfect for Instagram-worthy photos.

I strongly believe that every travel experience should be an opportunity to capture the best moments of yourself, allowing you to cherish and revisit them even when you are in your golden years.

In addition to my blogging and influencing endeavours, I have recently embarked on a new venture in the tech industry. I am proud to say that I am the founder of a travel experience app, aiming to revolutionise the way people explore and enjoy their journeys.

What influenced you to enter this world of lifestyle and travel blogging?

Ten years ago, my primary intention was to document my travel moments and share them on Instagram, which was just launched to the public at that time. Little did I know that my travel stories would resonate with my audience, and I would gradually build a dedicated following.

As luck would have it, fashion brands noticed my content and approached me for collaborations. This opened new doors and allowed me to expand my network within the industry. I realise that I was fortunate to have entered the influencer realm during a time when there were fewer influencers.

You have a unique fashion style. What inspirations do you have for your looks?

When it comes to my fashion style, my top priority is always comfort. I believe that feeling comfortable in what you wear is crucial. I am someone who appreciates both classic and playful elements in fashion, as well as a mix of street and high-end styles.

One brand that perfectly encapsulates my fashion sensibilities is Aime Leon Dore, a growing brand based in New York. I discovered them through their collaboration with New Balance, and I was truly impressed by their outfits. They embody a playful twist on the timeless aesthetics of another all-time favourite of mine - Ralph Lauren.

Moreover, I believe the connection between myself and my audience is closer compared to celebrities. This perspective guides me when creating content of outfit ideas. I want to inspire others by displaying styles that are accessible and relatable.

How have you curated your personal brand on Instagram?

Be true to yourself, that is the key. Curating my personal brand on Instagram is about being myself. The most important thing is to show my unique qualities and let my true personality shine. People are interested in me because I am different and authentic.

All the experiences I have had and the people I have met have influenced who I am today. By being true to myself and embracing my uniqueness, I have been able to create a personal brand on Instagram that resonates with others.

What is the best thing about travelling?

The best thing about travelling is that every journey is unique. Even if you encounter challenging or negative experiences during your travels, they still contribute to your travel experience. It is all part of the adventure and what makes travel so exciting.

One of the great benefits of travelling is the opportunity to meet locals [and experience what they are] doing. That is what travel experience is about. In fact, this concept is central to the travel experience app I have recently developed, as it focuses on connecting travellers with locals for a more immersive and authentic journey.

Why do you call Hong Kong home, and why is it so special to you?

Hong Kong holds a special place in my heart because it is where I was raised. It has always been my home. While I enjoy travelling and exploring different places, what truly brings me joy is sharing the stories and experiences of Hong Kong with my foreign friends in other countries.

What makes Hong Kong special to me is its unique blend of Chinese and Western cultures within one city. It offers a fascinating mix of historical and modern architecture, and the people here are known for their efficiency and friendliness. And, of course, the food in Hong Kong is delicious, whether it is from street stalls or fancy restaurants.
