10 Sports Bars in Kuala Lumpur to Get Your Athletics Fix

20221214 KL Sports Bar PIC01

Sports bars are there so you can celebrate a win, commiserate a loss or simply to be a place where you can hang out with your friends. These places are built to entertain, with the best ones having the perfect mixture of great food, better service, and all the live sports you could want.

Malaysia, being a football country, has never been short of sports bars. When it is matchday, you can be sure that the capital’s sports bars are going to be buzzing with energy. There is no better place to be during any sport’s world cup. With the beer flowing and the snacks keep on coming, you could spend hours talking, socialising, and having fun, even if the result did not go your way.

Here are 10 spots in Kuala Lumpur that we can recommend if you are in the mood for some live sports.

The Dark Horse

The Dark Horse in Kuala Lumpur is for everyone. The interiors will appeal to young sports fans who prefer open spaces, and the lounge booths are most definitely for the sit-down crowd. There is also al fresco seating where you can soak up the city or people-watch. Everything in The Dark Horse, from the food to the crowd and the live sports, is worth a visit.

Location: The Dark Horse, Lot G-05, Life Centre, 20 Jalan Sultan Ismail, 50250, Kuala Lumpur

GRIDiRON Sports Cafe & Lounge

Convivial is the word that best describes GRIDiRON Sports Café in Bangsar. When the crowd’s team is winning, you will feel the energy even if you are still metres from the place. They play all kinds of live sports, from football and F1 to cricket, so there is a booth with your name on it in GRIDiRON. The variety in their food selection is nicer than most and worth coming back for, as well as the good beer in here.

Location: GRIDiRON Sports Cafe & Lounge, Jalan Telawi 2 11 & 15, Kuala Lumpur

MST Golf Arena

Despite its name, MST Golf Arena caters to everybody. The system here is a bit more exclusive, as you need a reservation to get a table, but it is a must-visit for tourists and locals. They have friendly rates so casual enjoyers can try a spot of digital golfing, and there are executive-level suites for people with deeper pockets. Either way, there is plenty of great service and sumptuous food to keep your friends and family entertained.

Location: MST Golf Arena, S-214, Level 2, The Gardens Mall, Mid Valley City / Ground Floor 01-A, Tropicana Gardens Mall, Tropicana

Havana Bar & Grill

This Cuban-inspired sports bar in Bukit Bintang is a tropical paradise with plenty of outdoor seating and live sports. Havana Bar & Grill does cocktails better than most, though. They also have the best liquors available, alongside some typical bar fare done a little better. In addition, this place being in Bukit Bintang, do not be surprised if a party breaks out because the atmosphere here is built for fun times.

Location: Havana Bar & Grill, 2 & 4, Changkat Bukit Bintang, Bukit Bintang, 50200 Kuala Lumpur

H.O.F.

When H.O.F. says it is “Everyone’s Sports Bar,” you can see it in how the place is built. The whole area has a food hall, elbow-to-elbow atmosphere, making it a place where you can bring your friends and family. The feel of unity is strong, which will sway from good to bad depending on whether your team is winning or losing.

Location: H.O.F., G-2B, Ground Floor, Nexus Bangsar South, Jalan Kerinchi, Bangsar

Healy Mac's Irish Bar & Restaurant

Any athletic event is a cause for celebration at Healy Mac’s, a true Irish outpost in Southeast Asia. If premiership football, Aussie football, or fighting sports is your speed, this is the place for you. In addition, if you have ever wondered how a St. Patrick’s Day goes, the timeless Irish tradition, a pint of Guinness at Healy Mac’s is about as close as you can get to the real thing without having to fly across the world.

Location: Healy Mac's Irish Bar & Restaurant, Jalan P Ramlee Crown Regency, No.12 Ground Floor, Kuala Lumpur

The Sticky Wicket

If you did not already know it by the name, The Sticky Wicket is a cricketer’s joint. The racing green interiors might as well be the hallowed turf at Lord’s. This place is pure class, and it reflects not just in their décor but also in their menu and service. This is where sports lovers go and enjoy good innings, good beer, and good bar food.

Location: The Sticky Wicket, 34, Plaza Damansara,, Jalan Medan Setia 2, Bukit Damansara, 50490 Kuala Lumpur

Bounce

If traditional pub-style sports bars are not your speed, Bounce has you covered. Heavy on the neon lights and party atmosphere, this is the place if your friends like the idea of dancing while winning. While it is on the outskirts of KL, you will not be missing out on any of the fun you can have in the city.

Location: Bounce, Golf & Country Resort, Menara Lien Hoe, Lot 1.1, 1st Floor, No 8, Persiaran Tropicana, Tropicana, 47410 Petaling Jaya

The Beer Factory

The Beer Factory is a happy place, whether you have a reason to be happy or not. The beer is copious, and so are the friends you can make in this place. This place is a veritable bierhall in Kuala Lumpur, a sight to behold. It has the food and drink to match any celebration, or to save you from the sadness of a last-minute conceded goal.

Where: The Beer Factory, E-6-6, Block E, Setia Walk, Persiaran Wawasan, Pusat Bandar Puchong, 47160 Puchong, Selangor Darul Ehsan

Rock Bottom Changkat

A sports bar in the most traditional sense, this place has all the good European munch to go with your matchday mood. Depending on the crowd, Rock Bottom is somewhere you can chill out with friends or scream for your team.

Location: Rock Bottom Changkat, Changkat Bukit Bintang 42, Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur’s social scene is about to level up as global skills-game powerhouse HB Leisure (HBL) launches Malaysia’s first-ever social entertainment venue, built for the booming trend of “competitive socializing.”

The place is set up like a modern carnival, with a show-stopping Carousel Bar at the center serving handcrafted cocktails and easy, shareable bites. We’re combining our 100-year heritage in theme park skill-based entertainment with Kuala Lumpur’s growing appetite for quality, playful experiences.”

Carousel & Co. marks HBL’s big debut in Malaysia’s lifestyle and entertainment scene, and it’s built with both scalability and future franchise potential across Southeast Asia in mind. The venue blends tech-enabled play with group-friendly design. Think digital scoring woven into every corner and spaces made for teams, gatherings, and social hangouts. Guests can look forward to modern twists on classic skill games like Down-The-Clown, Skeeball, and Basketball, all enhanced with real-time scoring that keeps the energy high and the competition fun. Those looking to use it as an event space can peruse its available private spaces, which can accommodate groups from eight to 115 people.

20251112 Michelin KLPhoto by MICHELIN Guide Asia/Instagram

The 2026 edition of the MICHELIN Guide Kuala Lumpur & Penang has now been unveiled, marking the fourth edition of Malaysia’s celebrated heritage, flavors, and culinary heart through these two cities.

From time-honored hawker stalls to ingenious fine dining tables, this year’s selection reflects Malaysia’s culinary scene in bloom, where tradition and innovation continue to thrive together. It also paints a perfect picture of a country that pays tribute to its roots while still embracing the world.

The MICHELIN Guide Kuala Lumpur & Penang 2026 features 151 establishments across its distinctions, a significant jump from the 2025 selection of 143 restaurants.

Loading...

Dewakan earns the highest distinction once again as the only Two MICHELIN-Starred restaurant in the country. Eight restaurants (six in Kuala Lumpur, two in Penang) earn the One MICHELIN Star: Akar, Beta, Chim by Chef Noom, DC. by Darren Chin, Molina, Terra Dining, Au Jardin, and Auntie Gaik Lean’s Old School Eatery.

Aside from the MICHELIN Stars, several special awards were also given out during the ceremony. This year, 58 restaurants were awarded the Bib Gourmand distinction, including the newly added Gulainya, Lama, Awesome Char Koay Teow, Bee Hwa Café, and Sifu, celebrating establishments that serve exceptional food at moderate prices.

As for the MICHELIN Selected Restaurants, 84 restaurants have impressed Inspectors with their quality, character, and culinary soul. 11 new additions include Bidou, Jie, K, Kazu, Kuki, Shu, Blacklinen, Du-An (Lebuh Pantai), Mémoire, Peninsula House, and Sood by Chef Ton.

The MICHELIN Guide Special Awards were awarded to professionals whose vision and craftsmanship continue to refine Malaysia’s culinary landscape. Renowned for his thoughtful exploration of heritage and identity through food, Chin Hua Wong of Shu earned the Young Chef Award. Presented by UOB Malaysia, Bidou, the newest venture of Chef Darren Teoh of Two-Star Dewakan, was awarded Opening of the Year, and Maverick Fung of K earned the Service Award.

“The 151 establishments recognized this year reflect the remarkable energy and diversity of Malaysia’s food scene,” said Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guide. “Together, they form a mosaic of flavor and passion, telling the culinary story of a modern Malaysia — one that is confident, expressive, and innovative.”

Malaysia is one of five MICHELIN-rated destinations in Southeast Asia, joined by Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and, most recently, the Philippines. MICHELIN inspectors base their ratings on five globally applied criteria: ingredient quality, mastery of cooking technique, harmony of flavors, the chef’s personality in his cuisine, and consistency between visits.

For the full list of MICHELIN-starred, Bib Gourmand, and Selected restaurants, visit the MICHELIN Guide website, as well as their Facebook and Instagram pages. Download the MICHELIN Guide free app for iOS and Android.

Penang's Backdoor Bodega Joins Asia’s Finest at The Standard BKK Bar Crawl

12Photo by Website/ Backdoor Bodega

Great news for bar hoppers! Now, you’ll get the chance to sip cocktails from four of Asia’s top bars — all in one night, all under one roof.

On October 29, Bangkok will be home to a high-proof pilgrimage: The Best of the Best Bar Crawl, hosted by The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon.

More than an average bar hop, it’s a curated collision of mixology, culture, and regional flair, featuring four award-winning bars from Asia’s 50 Best list.

Malaysian cocktail lovers shouldn’t be a stranger to Penang’s own Backdoor Bodega. Known for its irreverent “gift shop” branding and unapologetically local flavor profiles, the bar has earned cult status across Southeast Asia, as well as The Best Cocktail Menu in the World title at The World's 50 Best Bars 2025 award ceremony.

Founders Yung Shen Koh and Chia Wen Lok have built a reputation for turning Malaysian ingredients into bold, expressive drinks that speak to street culture and regional pride. At the crawl, Backdoor Bodega will take over Ojo, The Standard’s sky-high Mexican restaurant, serving up a menu that promises torch ginger, pandan, and tropical spice in every sip.

Joining them are three equally formidable names. Vender Bar (No. 74 Bar in the World 2025) from Taichung at Mott 32 Bangkok will bring Taiwanese flair and modern luxury to the table, while Stir Bar (No. 61 Bar in Asia 2025) from Ho Chi Minh will offer minimalist, clean cocktails that lean into quiet sophistication at Double Standard. Maltail Bar (No. 75 Bar in Asia 2025) from Kaohsiung rounds out the lineup with island-inspired pours and laid-back charm at Mott 32.

What makes this bar crawl even more impressive is that all stops are a rare feat for any hotel. Each venue channels a distinct elemental theme: earthy pours at Mott 32, fire-infused boldness at Double Standard, and airy, floral sips at Ojo Terrace, the highest rooftop bar in Bangkok.

Guests will receive a “passport” to navigate the crawl, starting at Double Standard. The ticket, priced at THB1,980 per person, includes four signature cocktails, bar bites at each venue, and two bonus drinks. The event will run from 7PM to 11PM on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.

For KL’s cocktail connoisseurs, it’s a rare chance to see Penang’s finest mix with Asia’s elite, all in one night, all in one city. Secure your seat now via Megatix.
