Metro Manila COVID-19 Positivity Rate Rises to 12.4% - OCTA

The seven-day COVID-19 positivity rate (the percentage of all tests that are actually positive for COVID-19) in the National Capital Region has climbed to 12.4% on Dec. 3 from 11.1% on Nov. 26, according to independent pandemic monitor OCTA Research. This is above the World Health Organization's recommended positivity rate threshold of at or below 5%.

OCTA Research Fellow Dr. Guido David, in a Twitter post yesterday, said that the increases were also observed in other areas in Luzon, namely Bataan, Cagayan, Camarines Sur, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Laguna, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Quezon, Rizal, and Zambales.

Meanwhile, David shared that a decrease in positivity rate was observed in the provinces of Albay, Batangas, Benguet, Bulacan, Isabela, Kalinga, La Union, Mountain Province, and Tarlac.

The Department of Health (DOH) reported yesterday that 7,731 new cases in the Philippines have been logged from Nov. 28-Dec. 4, with an average of 1,104 cases per day. The DOH added that the figures are 4% lower than the cases reported from Nov. 21-27.

The increased positivity rates of areas in Luzon from Nov. 26-Dec. 3 are as follows:

  • Metro Manila - 11.1% to 12.4%
  • Bataan - 9.7% to 11.2%
  • Cagayan - 18.2% to 12.4%
  • Camarines Sur - 27.7% to 38.8%
  • Ilocos Norte - 7.8% to 11.1%
  • Ilocos Sur - 32.9% to 36.2%
  • Laguna - 13.1% to 19.2%
  • Nueva Ecija - 32.9% to 39.1%
  • Pampanga - 8.3% to 10.6%
  • Quezon - 7.2% to 13.3%
  • Rizal - 13.2% to 19.7%
  • Zambales - 6.1% to 10.7%
