8 Movies to Catch at the 51st Metro Manila Film Festival This December

ImperfectPhoto by Nathan Studios, Inc./Facebook

When December comes around, it usually means one thing for moviegoers: it’s MMFF season. The Metro Manila Film Festival is a holiday staple, giving Filipino films the spotlight just in time for Christmas and turning cinema trips into part of the festive tradition.

Now in its 51st edition, the MMFF returns with eight brand-new films taking over local theaters for two weeks starting on Christmas Day, perfect for squeezing in a movie or two between family gatherings and holiday celebrations.

This year’s official entries are nothing short of exciting, bringing together a mix of beloved stars, rising actors, and genre-driven storytelling. From comedy to drama, here are the eight MMFF entries you should put on your watch list this Christmas.

Mt. Camisong Forest Park and Events is celebrating its first-ever Christmas Celebration with “Marahuyong Pasko,” a month-long holiday festival blending Cordilleran culture, community craftsmanship, and conscious celebration. The festive season also marks the park’s debut Christmas since its opening to the public in February 2025.

Set against the backdrop of Benguet’s magnificent, forested landscape, Marahuyong Pasko reimagines Christmas through nature-forward experiences, local craftsmanship, and shared traditions. Inspired by the Filipino word marahuyo, meaning “to be enchanted,” the celebration invites guests to slow down and rediscover the wonder of Christmas through simple and meaningful traditions that are rooted in nature.

Designed to the tune of classic Filipino carols, the immersive and illuminating display blends festive visuals with an environmentally friendly approach.

Adding to the holiday soundscape, Cantata at Rondalla sa Dagitab brings chorale and rondalla competitions to the park on Dec. 13 and 21, 2025, highlighting musical talents from Baguio and nearby communities.

Merchants include Mandeko Kiko, an artisan collective whose name means “let’s sell” in Ibaloi; Danum Wines, a small-batch winery selling red and white tapuey (rice wine) and bugnay wine; Tawid, a jewelry brand blending ancestral Cordilleran heritage with modern artistry; Narda’s Handwoven Arts & Crafts, a heritage brand of handwoven fabrics; Abiakak, a maker of handmade crochet products that range from traditional to playful; and Nectar Knights, a trusted local beekeeper serving pure, raw honey and artisanal hot sauces.

To accommodate the season’s extended festivities, Mt. Camisong is offering longer park hours, allowing guests to catch sunrise views and a sea of clouds at Alapaap View Deck and stay on for the night’s light displays and performances. Visitors can also spend their day exploring the park’s dedicated forest trails, gardens, activity zones, book nooks, and amphitheater spaces.

Comedy Franchise 'Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank' to Debut on Stage

Every good thing comes in…fours?

After two blockbuster films and a TV series, cult favorite satire franchise “Ang Babae sa Septic Tank” is returning this June 2026 with a new format — a live theater production by the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA).

Titled “Ang Babae sa Septic Tank4:Oh Sh!t It’s Live Sa Cheter,” the production is slated to run from June 19 to Aug. 16, 2026, at the PETA Theater Center.

True to its concept, the fourth installment of the satirical comedy promises a chaotic, sharp-witted, and hilarious look into the world of Philippine theater. The show will take the audience behind the curtain and expose them to the ego, ambition, and messy realities that drive the industry to what it is today.

Eugene Domingo returns to reprise her iconic role as a fictionalized version of herself, which she has done since 2011. Additional casting has yet to be announced, but PETA seems to be hinting that she will be joined by “everybody else in the theater world as themselves.”

The production will be helmed by the franchise’s original creators, Marlon Rivera and Chris Martinez, with direction by Maribel Legarda.

Tickets to PETA’s “Ang Babae sa Septic Tank4:Oh Sh!t It’s Live Sa Cheter” will be available in early 2026. Metrobank credit cardholders will have first access to tickets during a special presale, but everyone can get their next spot in line when they sign up here from now until Dec. 7, 2025!

For more information and updates, follow the Philippine Educational Theater Association on Facebook, X (Formerly Twitter), and Instagram. Visit their website here.
