A great, comforting hotpot always comes with a hearty selection of meat, vegetables, and mushrooms, plus a pot of steaming hot broth that warms the stomach. But what if we tell you that there’s a fun, new way to enjoy this beloved dish, right here in the Lion City?
Unveiled in late September at Orchard Central, Kumachan Onsen, the popular hotpot place from Hokkaido, Japan, has brought its innovative and quirky take on the said dish — a hotpot that features a teddy bear-shaped broth!
These too-cute-to-consume bear-shaped collagen jellies are adorned with a daikon-made “towel” on its head, which sits on top of a bowl where you can put hot water and all the seasonings you want. When melted in boiling hot water, these bears transform into a flavorful broth that elevates the taste of your hotpot.
These broths come in six flavors: the rich and savory Japanese miso, the spicy mabo, the hot and tangy gochujang, the creamy soy milk, the nutritious collagen soup, and the light and refreshing bonitoflavor. You can also choose a main ingredient to go with your hotpot, which includes beef karubiand chicken.
Hotpots are priced from S$15.80 to S$23.80, depending on the main ingredient you pick.
If you love to order something extra, these hotpots are best paired with their chicken, pork, or beef yakiniku sets. There are also side dishes, such as garlic butter prawn(S$7.90toS$12.90) and chicken crispy gyoza(S$6.90), as well as matcha, chocolate, and vanilla-flavored ice cream for dessert (S$4.90), among many others.
