If you're in dire need of a break, a much-deserved trip to the beach is in order. While Singapore is not known for its beaches compared to other Southeast Asian destinations like Thailand or the Philippines, it still has beaches that locals and tourists enjoy, including a couple of island getaways that can be easily reached in two hours or less.

Get ready to escape to paradise, walk along the shore, and explore crystal-clear waters for one memorable getaway at these beaches:

Sentosa

A family-friendly destination with different attractions and activities suitable for all ages, Sentosa Island is not only one of Singapore’s must-visit landmarks; it’s also home to beaches where you can feel the sand between your toes and make a splash. The island highlights around three kilometres of white sand that run across its famous beaches – Siloso, Palawan, and Tanjong.

If you want to stay in Sentosa, there are still a ton of activities you can do including enjoying refreshments while lounging at the beach bar, wading in the waters, or simply soaking up some sun under a tree.

How to get there: Take the Sentosa Express from Level 3 of VivoCity to Beach Station. If you’re taking the bus, ride Bus 123 from the Bukit Merah Interchange then take the bus to the Sentosa Gateway bus stop before transferring to the Sentosa Express.

Siloso Beach

A slice of paradise awaits you at Siloso Beach, with its towering palm trees and lush surroundings that add to the soothing tropical atmosphere. You have the option of swimming, relaxing on the sand, or chilling at any of the beach clubs and bars in the area.

If you've finished calming your nerves and want to kick things up a notch, there are activities that can pump up your adrenaline, too. Siloso Beach is known to attract thrill-seekers after all. You can try bungee jumping, zip-lining, and jet skiing.

How to get there: Ride the Sentosa Express, alight at Beach Station then take the Beach Shuttle. If you’re riding the bus, ride Bus 123, alight at Beach Station then take the Beach Shuttle.

Punggol Beach

Considered as a historic site hidden at the end of Punggol Point Park, Punggol Beach is a picture-perfect getaway where you can take numerous Instagram-worthy photos and create lasting memories. You’ll instantly notice the boulders found around the shoreline, which many instantly include in their snapshots.

While relishing the peacefulness and beauty of the beach, don’t miss going to the Viewing Deck where you can admire the Johor and Pulau Ubin straits and do drop by the Punggol Point Park to see the Lily Ponds.

How to get there: Punggol Beach is accessible via the North East Line of the MRT. Alight at Punggol MRT Station then take a bus or walk to the beach.

St. John’s Island

Leave the city behind and escape to St. John’s Island located on the southern side of Singapore. Known for its natural beauty, this getaway features clear blue waters, fine sand, and lush greenery. Aside from swimming, enjoying picnics, and taking nature walks, you can do a variety of activities on the island such as visiting the Marine Park Outreach and Education Centre, fishing, and learning more about island wildlife.

How to get there: Board the ferry at Marina South Pier which will take you directly to the island.

Lazarus Island

Considered one of Singapore’s hidden gems, Lazarus Island boasts postcard-worthy views, praised by visitors for its picturesque beauty and cleanliness. Get ready to explore, relax, and delve into activities that can make you forget the daily grind. Here, you can sunbathe, swim, fly a kite, and enjoy a picnic. As one of the less crowded beaches in Singapore, Lazarus Island offers the perfect opportunity for some quiet time to unplug.

How to get there: Ride the ferry from Sentosa Jetty @ Cove or Marina South Pier. You can also access Lazarus Island from St. John’s by walking the pavement that connects the two.

Bintan Island, Indonesia

Venture out of the city-state and travel to Indonesia to visit Bintan Island, a natural stunner known for its pristine beaches and breathtaking tropical landscapes. Make the most of your trip by swimming in the crystal-clear waters or simply soaking in the peacefulness of its secluded coves. Batam Island, Indonesia

Batam Island rivals the beauty of Bintan Island, attracting visitors with its stunning scenery and number of activities to enjoy during your stay.
