Bangkok to Host ‘Door to Equal Asia’ Pride Parade on June 4
Good news, gays and allies! Ready your multi-coloured outfits as Bangkok will host a grand pride parade under the theme “Door to Equal Asia” on June 4.
A collaboration between Bangkok Pride and Naruemit Pride, the parade will have six groups of marchers, each representing the colours of the pride flag.
“Starting at 2pm on June 4, [people will march] from the Pathumwan intersection in front of Bangkok Arts and Cultural Center and proceed to the Ratchaprasong intersection,” Bangkok Pride founder Waaddao Chumaporn told Bangkok Post.
According to Waaddao, this year’s Pride Month event is part of Bangkok’s bid to host World Pride 2028. “Last year, about 20,000 people attended the march at Silom Road. This year, we aim for 20,000 marchers and 100,000 spectators,” she said.
“If we can celebrate pride every year, we will open the door of equality to neighbouring countries, and it will show our readiness to become the 2028 World Pride host,” she added.
Officials from the National Human Rights Commission, representatives from the Justice Ministry, and diplomats from UN agencies will attend the parade to support the LGBTQIA+ community.
Ahead of the parade, the organisers will mount an art exhibit called “Road to Bangkok World Pride 2028” on May 29, featuring artworks created by Thai artists. For more information, follow Bangkok Pride on Facebook.
