theCOMMONS: An Outdoor Architectural Space Where You Can Work and Chill

With a goal of creating an outdoor space where Thailanders can work, catch up with friends, and chill, theCOMMONS is one of the newest hangout spots in Bangkok’s city-centre.

A project by the Department of Architecture, theCOMMONS is a four-storey building that features a vertical open area called “The Ground,” which has ramps, steps, kiosks, and working stations. Several parts of the area are covered in mini gardens, making it a well-ventilated place.

Since it’s an open space, theCOMMONS allows visitors to enter freely without the worry of overcrowding on the ground level. If you love working out but don’t have enough space at home, this building has plenty of room for you to stretch, jog, and engage in adrenaline-pumping activities.

Apart from being a relaxing and productive environment, theCOMMONS offers industrial-style walls that can serve as a good backdrop for photoshoots and TikTok videos.

On the second level, you’ll find a myriad of food shops, including The Lobster Lab, a popular spot where you can indulge in creamy seafood; Fowlmouth, a mini restaurant for burger-and-fries lovers; Sugarray Apartment, a cosy speakeasy offering refreshing libations; and VIVI Tuscan Kitchen, an Italian restaurant serving homemade dishes.

Visitors who want to see a panoramic view of the city will love the open areas on the third and fourth levels, where the sweeping Bangkok skyline awaits. Kiosks, chairs, and tables are also available for people to unwind, eat, and drink amid a picturesque setting.

Staying true to its mission of igniting Bangkokians’ love for the arts, theCOMMONS hosts mini art festivals and music events, where you can meet some of the most talented up-and-coming Thai artists and musicians. For more information, click here.
