M’sia Gets Its First Two MICHELIN Star Restaurant at MICHELIN Guide 2024
MICHELIN Guide is back for its second edition in Malaysia for the MICHELIN Guide Kuala Lumpur & Penang 2024, with 127 restaurants awarded, including a restaurant promoted with two MICHELIN stars, four restaurants recognised with one MICHELIN star, 77 MICHELIN Selected, and 45 Bib Gourmand.
Dewakan, a modern Malaysian restaurant headed by chef Darren Teoh that received one MICHELIN star during the guide’s first edition, has now received two MICHELIN stars, making it the first dining establishment in the country to gain two stars.
The restaurant uses locally sourced ingredients, including dinnerware. Its curated tasting menu includes a variety of items that undergo in-house fermentation or dry ageing, complemented by seasonal fruits and herbs.
Four other restaurants have also gained the one MICHELIN star list, including Au Jardin, Auntie Gaik Lean’s Old School Eatery, DC. by Darren Chin, and Beta, which got promoted for this year's edition.
Additionally, the MICHELIN Guide Kuala Lumpur & Penang 2024 introduced 25 newly recommended establishments to the MICHELIN Guide 2024 selection, highlighting the diverse culinary landscape of the region and bringing the total number of MICHELIN-selected establishments to 77.
