Gone are the days when you still need to fall in long lines for a Tax Identification Number (TIN) ID!

To provide an “excellent service to taxpayers,” the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has announced the launch of digital TIN IDs through a memorandum. These IDs are available through BIR’s online service portal, the Online Registration and Update System (ORUS).

In a press statement, BIR commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr. said the digitalization is also aimed at eliminating fixers and scammers selling the said identification card.

To get your digital TIN ID, simply head over to the ORUS website, then click on “New Registration.” On the “User Type” tab, tap on “As an Individual,” then create an account with your working and permanent email address, along with other necessary details.

The next step is to log in to your ORUS account, then click on the “Get Your Digital TIN ID” dropdown. Choose “View Your Digital TIN ID.” A draft ID will then be displayed, and you’ll be prompted to add your photo. Upload a clear ID photo of yourself, then tap “Generate Digital TIN ID.”

A pop-up message will appear. Click “Confirm” and take a survey. After answering the survey, you will be redirected to your homepage, where you can download your ID via the “View Your Digital TIN ID” menu.

According to the BIR, the digital TIN ID will serve as a valid government-issued document accepted by government agencies, local government units, banks, and other institutions. Its authenticity can be verified online via ORUS with the QR code provided.

The ID is also not temporary, as its holders do not need to secure a physical card once they have the digital ID. Only taxpayers with an existing TIN can apply for the digital TIN ID.

The BIR also reminds the public that the ID is free; hence, taxpayers must be vigilant against scammers selling the digital ID.
