Singapore Launches New Network to Promote Workplace Mental Health
As part of its nationwide mental health initiatives, Singapore has launched a new network of agencies and organisations aiming to promote mental health in the workplace.
Called the Well-Being Champions Network, the newly launched organisation brings together agencies and associations in the country to provide companies with training and resources on safeguarding the mental well-being of their employees.
On Nov. 20, Singapore’s Minister of State for Manpower, Gan Siow Huang, led a discussion about the organisation’s initiatives. It was attended by representatives from the Workplace Safety & Health Council (WSHC), the Singapore National Employers Federation, and NTUC Singapore.
At the discussion, the organisation further expanded the Tripartite Advisory on Mental Health and Well-Being. This aims to give employers guidance on how to better support their employees’ mental health needs with new practices.
The new practices include a peer support system and encouraging companies to hire job-ready individuals with mental health conditions for more inclusivity.
In the opening remarks shared on the Ministry of Manpower’s website, Huang also shared that by January 2024, members of the organisation will gain access to training aligned with the National Mental Health Competency and Training Framework. This involves being able to identify signs of burnout or distress among employees and learning self-care techniques to teach them.
Organisations, agencies, and companies interested in participating in this cause can join the network for free by sending them an email. To learn more about the updated Tripartite Advisory, go here.
