Shrek's Swamp Opens as a Unique Airbnb Rental in the Scottish Highlands

Once a place of refuge for a collection of delightful and, at times, eccentric fairytale creatures, Shrek's Swamp is now opening its doors – or rather, swinging its wooden gates open – to visitors from around the world.

Situated in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, between the villages of Biallaid and Newtonmore, this lush abode offers a uniquely enchanting experience. Replete with moss-covered surroundings and tranquil waters, the cosy cottage lies amid a range of scenic natural spots for countless outdoor activities like stargazing, picnics, and nature walks.

With the towering trees providing a canopy above and the soft squelch of mud underfoot, Shrek's Swamp has been transformed into an unconventional 'treehouse' stay. Priced at USD$0 a night and officially hosted by Shrek’s ever-enthusiastic sidekick, Donkey, guests can book a magical two-night stay from Oct. 27 to 29, 2023.

Airbnb guests of Shrek’s Swamp will be able to unwind amidst the cosy glow beside the fireplace, retelling fairytales while savouring the layers of a delightful parfait. In the morning, they can enjoy the delightful aroma of freshly made waffles, courtesy of Donkey.

Naturally, guests can have a true Shrek experience with that iconic outhouse. Washroom and showering facilities are located around 20 metres away from the swamp house.

“I have to be honest – I love everything about the swamp: the boulder out front, the modest interiors, the seclusion; ideal for singing karaoke late into the night, you get the picture. I can’t wait for guests to experience this muddy slice of paradise for themselves,” Donkey states in the Airbnb listing’s host description.

While the experience is on the house (or swamp, in this case), guests will need to make their travel arrangements to the Scottish location.

In tandem with the listing, Airbnb has pledged a donation to HopScotch Children's Charity, a local organization dedicated to granting respite breaks to some of Scotland's most vulnerable children, enriching their lives with memorable holiday experiences.
