5 NIKI Songs We La La Love That You Should Listen To!
Indonesian pop singer, NIKI, is making a buzz with the long-awaited release of her third full-length studio album!
Safe to say that the 88rising star is no longer lowkey (pun intended) having received global recognition for her music and selling out several shows on her first headlining tour, "Nicole," across North America and Asia. She was also listed among Forbes 30 under 30 in Asia last 2020.
Earlier this year, NIKI released the single “24” and posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) that it was a song she wrote to “synthesize her twenties.” Last May, she announced her new album, “Buzz,” which drops on Aug. 9 via 88rising. Following the news, she also released the second track off the upcoming record: “Too Much of a Good Thing” which currently has over a million views on YouTube.
Ahead of the album, NIKI has already announced a world tour which is set to kick off in North America in September. Additionally, she’ll be doing shows in Europe in October as well as in Asia and Australia/New Zealand in early 2025.
As we anticipate the release of her new album, here are some of her tracks that should definitely be added to your playlists!
Every Summertime
Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings, 2021
NIKI shows us how to write a pop hit with “Every Summertime.” Fun fact: the singer revealed that they wrote this song in just under an hour!
It has a fun and playful retro sound reminiscent of R&B soul tied together by lyrics telling the story of two people and how their love blossomed and remained through the seasons. The track is the lead single of the official motion-picture soundtrack for the Marvel studios film, “Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings.”
La La Lost You
Head in the Clouds II, 2019
You can never go wrong with a heartbreak song. NIKI composes a sad song about two lovers pulled apart by their dreams, leaving them on opposite sides of the continent.
It’s a heartfelt and evocative track about being separated from the one you love woven through modern R&B and pop sonic sounds. The intro synth sounds so melancholic like it’s literally plucking at our heartstrings, which we la la love!
High School in Jakarta
Nicole, 2022
The first thing we thought of when we heard this track is that it has the same vibe as some of Taylor Swift’s earlier music with its profound lyrics about the complexities of teenage love (and the entirety of being on the cusps of adulthood, really) coupled with an upbeat pop sound.
Definitely one of our faves as it showcases NIKI’s talent as a songwriter.
Lowkey
wanna take this downtown? (EP), 2019
This song is the singer’s take on a secret romance narrative as it expounds on the thrills of starting a new relationship. NIKI’s voice both sounds like a secret (when she hits those head tones) and a declaration of love (especially when she sings the line: “Take a shot, take a chance, take my hand boy. Tension so intense like an asteroid”).
The pop singer told in a Genius video how the song came about and how she simply wanted to write “a song that encapsulated youth and celebrated the electricity of a budding romance, but coupled with having to keep it under wraps.”
It’s sultry and sweet and everything in between. We highkey recommend putting it on repeat!
Take a Chance with Me
Nicole, 2022
NIKI composes a touching song about wanting to jump headfirst into love as the narrator expresses her desire for a man who’s got “swirls of passion in his eyes” and yet seems guarded to open up and pursue a romantic relationship with her.
What we love most about this track are the poetic phrases woven in through chunks of lyrics, making it more than just a sweet love song, but a profound declaration of wanting — maybe even a bold invitation — to be with someone.
ICYDK, NIKI is currently uploading “Bitz of Buzz” series where she talks about the tracks on her forthcoming album.
