ICYMI: 96th Oscars Awards Announces Nominees, Including 'Barbenheimer'

The Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, is kicking off its 96th edition as the award-giving body unveiled this year’s nominees.

The 96th Academy Awards will honour films released last year in 23 categories, including screenplay, actors, directing, and musical scoring, among others.

Among the nominees is the epic biographical thriller film “Oppenheimer,” leading the pack with 13 nominations under its belt. This includes the Actor in a Leading Role category for its lead actor, Cillian Murphy, and Directing for Christopher Nolan.

Its biggest box-office competitor and “Barbenheimer” phenomenon match, “Barbie,” earns eight nods, including Actress in a Supporting Role for America Ferrera and Original Song for “I’m Just Ken” and “What Was I Made For?”

Meanwhile, the satirical film “Poor Things” got 11 nominations, including Actress in a Leading Role for Emma Stone, Cinematography for Robbie Ryan, and Directing for Yorgos Lanthimos.

These films are also nominated for Best Picture, along with “American Fiction,” “Anatomy of a Fall,” “The Holdovers,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Maestro,” “Past Lives,” and “The Zone of Interest.”

Oscars 2024 is also set to recognize the best animated feature film, documentary feature film, documentary short film, international short film, and live action short film of 2023.

Last year, the sci-fi, comedy, and action film “Everything Everywhere All at Once” was the Oscars’ biggest winner, with 11 nominations and seven wins.
