Kim Jisoo, a member of the South Korean global sensation Blackpink, is set to star in the upcoming Zombie series “Newtopia.”

The series follows the story of a couple navigating a zombie-infested Seoul to find their way back to each other. The show is slated for a 2025 release on Korean streaming service, Coupang Play.

Jisoo stars as Kang Young-ju, an engineer with a new job who is waiting for her boyfriend’s release in the military. Park Jung-min plays her leading man, Lee Jae-yoon, who encounters a zombie outbreak during his mandatory military service. Wanting to be together again, they fight their way through attacks and challenges in a city that has now been overrun by zombies.

The show — previously entitled “Influenza” — has already finished filming and was co-scripted by Han Jin-won, who co-wrote the Oscar-winning film “Parasite” with Bong Joon-Ho, and Ji Ho-jin, who penned “A Shop for Killers” on Disney+. The show is also directed by Yoon Sung-hyun, who is making his television directorial debut after working on films such as “Time to Hunt” (2020) and “Bleak Night” (2011).

This is Jisoo’s second TV feature having previously starred in the K-Drama “Snowdrop” alongside Jung Hae-in on Disney+ in 2020. She is also in talks to star in the upcoming movie adaptation of the popular webtoon, “Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint.”
