Here Are the Theater and Musical Shows Gracing the Stage This May 2024

The month of May is all about celebrating the colorful flowers as they finally bloom just in time for summer. Just like the flowers, local theater is preparing to bloom with different stories and music to take the stage, offering a craft and talent that is waiting to bloom.

Big theater shows finally kicked off last month with One More Chance The Musical’s sold-out shows to international play Rent and classic local band Parokya ni Edgar’s musical, this month’s list offers a different experience from a local movie’s musical adaptation to an international musical treat. May is a budding month for everyone in the theater industry.

Bar Boys: A New Musical

From the big screen to the theater stage, Kip Oebanda’s 2017 film “Bar Boys” is finally having a theatrical adaptation set to open on May 3, bringing the story of the triumphs and challenges of the four aspiring law students named Chris (Alex Diaz), Erik (Benedix Ramos), Torran (Jerom Canlas), and Josh (Omar Uddin), joined by their professor Justice Hernandez (Sheila Francisco), with a touch of comedic twist.

Set to take stage at the PowerMac Center Spotlight Blackbox Theater at Circuit Makati, make sure you catch at least one show date as the play is only running until May 19!

Tackling a sensitive issue about the Roman Catholic Church that happened in Lipa, Batangas, in 1948, “GRACE” takes the interesting story of a nun named Teresita Castillo, who claimed that after countless encounters with the devil, the Virgin Mother appeared to her in the convent of the Discalced Carmelites in Lipa, Carmel, Batangas, as Mary Mediatrix of Grace. Her story has sparked controversy in the community.

Witness and dive deeper into her story, scheduled to open its curtains on May 25 at the PowerMac Center Spotlight Blackbox Theater at Circuit Makati.

Taking stage on May 11 at the Aliw Theater, the play marks the continuation of Ballet Manila’s Ballet Masterpieces performance season.
