Where to Shop Mum Approved Jewelry in Bangkok for Mothers Day

Every Aug. 12, Thais celebrate two of the most important events in the kingdom – Mother's Day and beloved Queen Sirikit’s birthday.

The first-ever Mother’s Day in Thailand was commemorated on April 15, 1950, however, it was changed to the birthday of the so-called “Mother of all Thai people,” also known as Her Majesty Queen Sirikit.

Queen Sirikit had been at the helm of serving the kingdom when the King decided to become a Buddhist monk. She became a competent queen and the Regent of Thailand and earned a number of accolades along the way, including the Humanitarian Award from the Asia Society, the Award of Excellence from the United Nations, and the Lindbergh Award.

Whether they’re your biological mother or a mother figure for Thais like Queen Sirikit, celebrating this special day is about thanking them for all their hard work and dedication. There are plenty of gift options you could give to your mum but if you’re looking for an extra special treat, you can never go wrong with a timeless piece of jewellery. Here’s where you can go bling shopping in Bangkok.

Shannta

If your mum loves silver accessories, you should check out Shannta’s jewellery collections made from 99.9% pure silver.

The jewellery shop believes that silver is a “healing metal that helps tune the energies of the body with the music of the spheres” and serves as a protector to ward off evil spirits.

Each piece of jewellery is handcrafted by professional artisans who are trained in making fine silver trinkets as well as handmade silver objects. You will surely find unique pieces like albatross rings, tribal rings, flower-designed rings, and origami earrings and pendants of different animals.

Shannta also offers DIY classes and provides tools for those who want to hand-make their own silver jewellery. There are different workshops available everyday – Popular course (THB 1,800), Atelier your style course for pendants or earrings (THB2,300), Atelier your course for rings (THB3,200), Couple course for pendants (THB3,800) and rings (THB5,500).

Walk-ins are accepted. The store is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 AM to 8 PM only.
