Ready your pointe shoes, because ballet dancewear brand Ballet Life has just unveiled its new collection in collaboration with Malaysian designer Syomirizwa Gupta.
The new collection merges the elegance of ballet with the chicness of haute couture. Among the items introduced is the Alicia Skirt, a pleated ankle skirt with Gupta’s hand-sketched print, which accentuates a ballerina’s elegance and fluidity.
The collection also features the Tamara Top, a unisex piece embellished with bishop sleeves and that has a ballerina-inspired side panel.
Other eye-catching items in the collection are the Natalia Skirt, which is the brand’s modern interpretation of ballerinas’ romantic tutu, and the Margot Pant and Mikhail Blazer, which, when paired together, is a blend of comfort and style.
Apart from dancewear clothes, the collection also has the Pavlova Set, a pink pajama set made of ultra-soft silk fabric printed with ballerina illustrations.

To help you revamp your activewear collection (or simply treat yourself to some new leggings), we’re sharing our favorite spots to shop for athleisure and sportswear in Kuala Lumpur.

They have pieces like ruffled skirts that allow for a full range of motion, flared leggings that offer both comfort and a flattering silhouette, ruched crop tops for a touch of style, and supportive halter sports bras.
Following a successful launch in Thailand, luxury activewear brand alo Yoga has opened its first Malaysian flagship store at The Exchange TRX. They offer stylish and comfortable workout clothes, including their popular Airlift leggings, sports bras, and shorts, plus sweatpants, jackets, underwear, and accessories for men and women. Look for their newest collections in espresso and wild berry.
Need activewear that keeps up with your dynamic life and looks good? Banana Fighter gets the modern woman. They’ve got your workout basics covered, whether you’re hitting the gym, going for a run, or even trying aerial yoga, but then they throw in some seriously cool stuff: think anti-UV sets with Japanese art prints, fun socks, and even jumpsuits and wrap dresses you can just throw on over your gym gear when you’re heading out.
From intense workouts to everyday errands, Liberty Active has you covered. This well-known local brand offers a diverse collection of sporty yet stylish activewear designed for everything from high-intensity training and casual runs to restorative yoga sessions. Complete your look with their range of accessories, including tote bags, slides, yoga mats, and socks.
Looking for activewear with real staying power, both in your workouts and your wardrobe? Terrae (it means “Earth” in Latin) focuses on quality and timeless design. They use stuff like organic cotton, leftover fabrics (deadstock), upcycled materials, and ECONYL (which is made from ocean waste). What’s more, their Movement shorts have pockets, because who doesn’t love pockets?
With the rise of activewear as both workout gear and everyday fashion, finding stylish and functional pieces is key. OWN, a brand from Johor, focuses on fashionable, high-quality fitness apparel. They sell a wide variety of pieces in bold colors, including mesh tops, wrap tops, leggings, capri leggings, and tank tops.
Want your workouts to align with your eco-conscious values? Reactive believes that performance and sustainability can go hand in hand. That’s why they’ve built their brand around using 100% recycled materials from REPREVE, a company known for its innovative process of turning discarded plastic bottles into soft, durable, and high-performance fabrics. This commitment extends to their entire range of activewear, including sports bras, leggings, and more.
Choosing Reactive means choosing activewear that’s good for your body and good for the planet.

Despite its very cool – and therefore, somewhat intimidating – aesthetic, the streetwear community is in fact, incredibly welcoming. Hugh Koh, the co-founder of Malaysian streetwear brand Pestle and Mortar, can attest to this; he’s been embraced with open arms into diverse and talented streetwear communities both in and out of Malaysia.
“Each of the different brands out there are all doing their own things and everyone inspires each other,” Hugh said.
People know Pestle and Mortar as a clothing brand that prides itself on cultural storytelling; they embrace elements familiar to their Southeast Asian clientele. Their recent collaboration with Philippine brand Don’t Blame The Kids (DBTK) and Indonesian brand Ageless Galaxy further strengthens such commitment.
Entitled “SEA No Bounds, SEA No Borders,” this collaborative release features unique designs created by each brand. For their part, Pestle and Mortar created a shirt that showcases three animals, each representing one culture.
“We included a tiger for Malaysia, a garuda [for Indonesia], and a bull [for the Philippines],” Hugh explained. “The whole idea is that these animals come together and carry artifacts from each country. From a distance, it looks graphic but when you come closer you see the details and realize that it tells a story.”
On the other hand, DBTK released an acid-wash shirt, while Ageless Galaxy designed a white top that showcases the durian, papaya, and mango fruit. The collection was lauded across three cities – Jakarta, Manila, and Kuala Lumpur – in a celebratory tour that highlighted togetherness and collaboration.

For Hugh, highlighting local and regional talent has always been an important aspect of his clothing brand. In fact, that’s how he came across the DBTK and Ageless Galaxy brands in the first place. His multi-label brand, Major Drop, carried DBTK and Ageless Galaxy, forming a bridge for these international creatives to come together.
“Southeast Asia has so much going for it; so many cool things are coming out, but a lot of people always look to the West and want to have Western brands. We wanted to create a space to shine a light on different regional creators,” Hugh explained.

Now 15 years old, Pestle and Mortar continues to shine a light on various creators, setting patriotic trends that inspire local citizens. The public is particularly receptive to such values, especially as Hugh noted that young people are becoming more conscious about what they wear.
“People now want a stronger message. What does a brand represent? People no longer want to buy for the sake of buying,” Hugh pointed out. “Our customers know how to curate their wardrobe and even for us, when we create our product, we are conscious about how we manufacture.”
Of course, this kind of fashion philosophy reflects Hugh’s style as well. As the visionary nears his 40th birthday, he noted that his style has evolved to include cleaner, more timeless pieces. “Right now, I’m all about being comfortable,” he shared. “These days, I gravitate more towards relaxed, clean looks [that also represent my values].”
