After saying goodbye to beloved Fu Wa and Feng Yi last May 2025, Zoo Negara is welcoming a new pair of giant pandas from China today!
The arrival of the two new giant pandas is under a 10-year panda loan project between Malaysia and China, which was renewed and signed last April when Chinese President Xi Jinping visited the country.
According to Deputy Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Si, the agreement allows the pandas to stay in Malaysia between 2025 and 2035 and supports China-Malaysia relations and collaborative research efforts on panda conservation and protection.

In 2014, two giant pandas: Fu Wa (Xing Xing) and Feng Yi (Liang Liang) were first brought to Malaysia and became beloved star attractions at Zoo Negara. They spent 11 years at the zoo, where they gave birth to three panda cubs, before being repatriated to China last May 2025.
The two new giant pandas’ public debut is expected for early 2026, depending on how they adapt to the new environment and their vet clearance.
