You don’t just stumble into a revolution — you run into it. And in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, runners are doing just that. New Balance has officially opened the doors to its first-ever Run Hub in Southeast Asia, and it’s not your average sneaker store. Nestled inside Suria KLCC, this is a place to move, connect, and belong.
Facebook/ New BalanceFacebook/ New Balance
The New Balance Run Hub is a bold step forward in experiential retail, designed as a dynamic space where performance meets community. Whether you’re a marathoner or someone who’s just lacing up for the first time, the Run Hub offers a tailored experience that goes far beyond the checkout counter. Like a clubhouse for runners, it’s complete with cutting-edge tech, real-world testing, and a calendar full of community-driven events.
What sets it apart is New Balance’s 3D foot scanning and shoe fitting service. This high-precision technology analyzes your foot shape and gait to recommend the perfect pair of shoes. But here’s where it gets interesting: you can borrow a pair of New Balance running shoes (subject to availability) and take them for a spin around the scenic KLCC Park. It’s a try-before-you-buy model that puts performance to the test.
Facebook/ New Balance
And starting this November, the Run Hub will host a series of community runs and events open to all levels. More than workouts, they’re social experiences designed to foster connection, motivation, and a shared love for movement. It’s also a nod to New Balance’s global ethos of empowering people through sport, now brought to life in the heart of Malaysia.
The launch of the Run Hub signals a new era for New Balance in Southeast Asia, one that prioritizes personalization, community, and the joy of running. It’s a space that invites you to move with intention.

The Professional Boxing Association of Thailand, in partnership with the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) and the National Sports Development Fund (NSDF), continues to advance Thailand’s influence through the “Muaythai Power for All in Malaysia.”
Held last Sept. 25 to 30, 2025, in Kuala Lumpur, the program aimed to promote Muaythai internationally, raise global awareness, reaffirm Muaythai as Thailand’s cultural heritage, and strengthen Thailand’s bid to have the sport recognized as an official Olympic discipline.

This project highlighted Muaythai’s dual identity — a martial art heritage and a growing creative industry that bridges tourism, sports, and culture. By bringing this experience abroad, Thailand aims to inspire new fans into the sport while strengthening its role as a symbol of national pride.
The program received a warm welcome from the Malaysian public, particularly from youth athletes, students, and sports enthusiasts, who participated in a range of cultural and educational activities, including:
Wai Khru Performance: showcasing the ritualistic art and heritage of Muaythai
Muaythai Workshop: teaching hand wrapping, basic moves, and Wai Khru to let participants experience the sport up close
Coach & Referee Seminar: providing knowledge on competition management in line with IOC standards
Academic Talk & Panel Discussion: on the theme “Muaythai as Cultural Heritage & Soft Power,” featuring Thai and Malaysian experts.

Beyond fostering cultural exchange, the project created a platform for dialogue among Asian sports leaders and representatives of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), marking a meaningful step towards Muaythai’s future inclusion in the Olympic Games. It also strengthened bilateral cooperation between Thailand and Malaysia in advancing sports development across the region.
“Muaythai is not only a sport but also a form of Soft Power that connects culture, economy, and international friendship,” said Mr. Somchart Charernwatcharawit, President of the Professional Boxing Association of Thailand. “Through ‘Muaythai Power for All in Malaysia,’ we reaffirm our commitment to promoting Muaythai globally and advancing it toward Olympic recognition.”
The success of the program underscores Muaythai’s growing international appeal — a cultural hallmark evolving into a global movement that continues to champion both athletic excellence and Thai identity.

What if your next cultural escape doesn’t require a passport, and all it does is a movie ticket and a craving for stories that move the soul?
This September and October, the Japanese Film Festival 2025 (JFF) transforms Malaysia into a cinematic tasting room, serving up 13 films that explore food, memory, and the quiet magic of human connection. From the bustling heart of Klang Valley to the breezy charm of Kota Kinabalu, the festival rolls across five cities, inviting audiences to experience Japan through its most intimate lens of storytelling.

Organized by The Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur, JFF spans five cities, Klang Valley, Penang, Johor Bahru, Kuching, and Kota Kinabalu, screening at GSC cinemas for just RM10 a ticket. From pandemic-era healing in Sunset Sunrise to the mouthwatering journeys of Northern Food Story and The Solitary Gourmet, it's a feast for both heart and palate.

The festival is an immersive experience beyond the featured films. The “Omakase Film Course” curates a cinematic tasting menu of culinary stories, while special screenings on Sept. 10, 2025 at GSC MyTown feature live Q&As with film Director Tetsuya Uesugi. Film enthusiasts can also join a three-day filmmaking workshop led by Uesugi himself, diving into storytelling techniques and cross-cultural creativity.
For classic lovers, Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai returns in stunning 4K restoration, reminding us why Japanese cinema continues to inspire generations. And for fans of anime and youth drama, titles like Teasing Master Takagi-san and 366 Days round out a diverse lineup.
JFF also introduces a Stamp Rally that encourages the audience to watch more and win more. Simply collect stamps for each film and redeem exclusive gifts, with bonus prizes for attending partner festivals.
As a foodie, a film lover, or just someone curious about Japan’s cultural heartbeat, JFF is your alternative passport to a journey that offers cinematic and cultural richness.
Visit JFF’s official website and GSC cinemas’ website for screening schedules, program, and ticket info. Also, follow The Japanese Foundation, Kuala Lumpur on Instagram and Facebook to learn more.
