Global authority for color communication and inspiration Pantone revealed the Color of the Year for 2023 is Viva Magenta (18-1750).

The shade exudes “vim and vigor” as it is rooted in the red family, which symbolizes not only strength but also bravery, fearlessness, joy, and optimism. Viva Magenta was selected because of its “electrifying” and “boundaryless shade” that is inclusive to all.

Viva Magenta is a nuanced crimson red tone that emanates warm and cool colors, a carmine red that is “assertive but not aggressive.” Overall, it is a “transformative red tone” that radiates positivity.

“In this age of technology, we look to draw inspiration from nature and what is real. PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta descends from the red family, and is inspired by the red of cochineal, one of the most precious dyes belonging to the natural dye family as well as one of the strongest and brightest the world has known,” Pantone Color Institute Executive Director Leatrice Eiseman said in a press release.

The company also introduced “The Magentaverse,” which taps “the dynamic between Artificial Intelligence and human creativity.”
