Feed Goats and Buy Their Milk at Singapore’s Only Goat Farm, Hay Dairies
Want to escape the hustle and bustle with your kids? While Singapore has its own agricultural farms that supply the greens we put in our dishes (despite its size), it also has a few family-friendly farms where we can interact with and feed farm animals. If you’re looking for a quick getaway, but also want to make it educational for your little ones, you might want to try visiting a goat farm to know more about how these domesticated animals are fed, raised, and milked.
About Hay Dairies
Hay Dairies, since its establishment in 1988, remains to be the only goat farm in Singapore.
They have over 800 mixed breed goats originating from Minnesota in the United States, with a diet mostly made up of high protein and free of genetically modified organism (GMO). The goats also receive a special feed from Australia that’s free from genetically modified maize (GMM).
Visiting the Farm
The farm is open daily, except Tuesdays, from 9 AM to 4 PM. If you want to watch the goat milking process, you’ll have to arrive from 9 AM-10:30 AM.
Entrance is free for groups of 10 people and below and no booking is required. Upon entering, you can walk around at your own pace and watch the goats laze around in their barns. If you want to pet them, it will be easier if you buy an Alfalfa Hay for S$5 per packet, so they’ll get closer to the fence.
For bigger groups, you’ll have to book an educational farm tour and choose from the morning (S$16.20 per participant) and afternoon (S$8.64 per participant) sessions. Hay Dairies’ very own goat farmer will provide you with an orientation, plus an explanation of the farm’s history, the milking process (for morning sessions), and the benefits of goat milk. You’re also free to ask them anything you would like to know!
Buying Fresh Goat Milk
Before waving your goodbyes, you can buy fresh goat milk directly from the farmers or souvenirs, such as a shopping bag, drawstring bag, or handmade goat milk soap. If you booked a farm tour, you’ll get a 200ml bottle and other freebies along with your package. But it won’t hurt to buy more to show your support!
The farm is located at 3 Lim Chu Kang Lane 4, but do take note that they’ll be relocating soon. For updates and more details, visit Hay Dairies’ website or follow their Facebook and Instagram accounts.
