Premium bottled water company San Pellegrino has unveiled the Asian edition of its annual “World’s 50 Best Restaurants” ranking, and Bangkok has a reason to celebrate!

Nine Thai-born dining establishments have made it to the list, and prominent restaurateur ThiTid “Tonn” Tassanakajohn has managed to secure not just one, but two spots.

The famed chef’s brainchild, Le Du, a contemporary diner that offers dishes made from traditional Thai ingredients, was named the best restaurant in Asia.

“To be the first Thai chef to reach Number 1 in Asia [may] seem impossible, but today [it] became a reality. Thank you [for] the love and support from my brothers, sisters, and friends across the industry,” chef Tonn said in an Instagram post.

Meanwhile, his Bangkok-inspired eatery Nusara – which was born out of his love for his grandmother – ranked third.

Check out the nine Bangkok restaurants on San Pellegrino’s “Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2023”:

  • 1st: Le Du
  • 3rd: Nusara
  • 5th: Gaggan
  • 9th: Sorn
  • 22nd: Suhring
  • 33rd: Ms. Maria and Mr. Singh
  • 35th: Potong
  • 38th: Jay Fai
  • 46th: Baan Tepa Culinary Space

“Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants” is a yearly ranking that aims to put the region’s best dining spots on a global scale, with a focus on highlighting their unique culinary offerings.
