Omega Releases Watch Inspired by The Dark Side of the Moon
Calling out the attention of watch enthusiasts! Here’s a new watch you can add to your collection. The Swiss brand Omega just introduced the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8 (US$14,300) which celebrates history and human achievements.
The 44.25 mm timepiece celebrates NASA’s 1968 mission, where the Apollo 8 crew became the first humans to ever see the far side of the moon. It features a highly detailed, laser-ablated relief of the moon’s surface on the blackened main plate that mimics the far side of the moon.
With a transparent case back revealing intricate details of the watch, the words “WE’LL SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE” are engraved – in reference to Jim Lovell’s final words spoken to ground control just before Apollo 8 travelled to the moon’s far side.
The Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3869 is used in the skeletonised watch, providing precise movements with a manual-winding chronograph function. At 9 ‘o clock, the small-seconds hand pays homage to the Saturn V rocket, adding a touch of NASA’s legacy to the design.
Aside from superior precision, the watch is also shock and water-resistant! It is also resistant to magnetic fields reaching 15,000 gauss.
