PUMA Brings Back '80s Terrace Legend Palermo OG Sneakers
Sportswear brand PUMA is bringing ‘80s fashion back in style as it marks the return of the iconic sneakers Palermo OG, the classic shoe named after the coastal capital of Sicily.
This comes after singer-songwriter and PUMA ambassador Dua Lipa teased the comeback on her Instagram page, to which the brand commented, “Effortless cool in these Palermos.”
Palermo OG’s 2023 iteration features the storied low-top's signature blue and white color combination, paired with a gum sole, a retro T-toe structure, gold PUMA lettering, and the brand’s logo on its heel.
The PUMA Palermo OG is available on July 18 at PUMA L2 Main Wing in Shangri-La and via PUMA’s website. There will also be an August release, which includes two additional colorways that are reminiscent of Palermo’s fruit vendors, known locally as “fruttivendolo.”
The classic sneakers were first unveiled in football stadiums in the 1980s, and they eventually became a staple among the terrace crowd. It was also originally part of PUMA’s special sneaker series that paid tribute to some of Europe’s most popular capitals, such as Oslo and London, among others.
