Supreme X MF DOOM: Honouring a Hip-Hop Legend with Posthumous FW23 Collab
When streetwear titan Supreme announces a collaboration, it invariably turns heads. But this season, it's not just about the trend; it's about honouring a legacy. In a moving tribute to the legendary hip-hop wordsmith MF DOOM, who left an indelible mark on the music industry, Supreme unveils a collection that is rumoured to span outerwear, tops, tees, pants, hats, and a range of other enticing collector’s items.
Best known by his stage name MF DOOM, Daniel Dumile was a prolific American rapper and producer who redefined the rap game with his smart wordplay, intricate lyricism, inventive rhythms, and an instantly recognizable presence. A cult figure in underground hip-hop and a founding father of the alternative hip-hop sounds today, he passed away at age 49 in 2020, revealed in a shocking announcement in early 2021.
Though the details remain under wraps, anticipation is already palpable. Fans of both Supreme and MF DOOM are eager to see how the brand interprets and pays homage to the rapper's influential style and distinct persona.
Never performing without his signature mask, which references the comic book villain Doctor Doom from Marvel’s Fantastic Four series, as well as Maximums from the film ‘Gladiator’ (2000, Dir. Ridley Scott), MF DOOM’s personal fashion is one that champions simple and comfortable street essentials, in warm and earthy tones with pops of bold red.
Given the weight of this posthumous collaboration, one can expect a fusion of Supreme's signature street aesthetics with motifs, lyrics, and designs inspired by MF DOOM’s illustrious career.
Stay tuned for more details on a drop date, with the Supreme x MF DOOM collection rumoured to be available this FW23 season.
