Ahh, another week is upon us, and you’re looking for cool things to get up to in the 852! We’ve saved you the hassle with The Beat Hong Kong’s rundown of the best places to hit up and things to do right now—from blink-and-you'll-miss-it pop-up sights and new restaurant openings, to the hottest activities that you shouldn’t miss.

1. ‘Weekly Swing Dance Social’ at The Dairy Club by Hong Kong Swings

Partnering up with Hong Kong Swings, a collective of music and dance aficionados taken with the namesake genre, The Dairy Bar at Fringe Club are hosting weekly dance socials for all to 'shim sham' and twirl the night away. Each session begins with a 30-minute-long taster that teaches participants new grooves and moves, before you go ahead and unleash the motion inside along to the jazzy swing tunes on offer.

2. 'City as Studio’ at K11 Musea

K11 Art Foundation

Curated by ex MOCA Director Jeffrey Deitch, ‘City As Studio’ is the city’s first major exhibition of graffiti and street art, set to run from Mar. 20 onwards, to coincide with Art Basel Hong Kong. The monumental showcase will feature over 100 works by more than 30 artists, covering street art across generations and styles.

The exhibition traces the global history of street art from its birth in 1970s New York, to its rise as a worldwide medium. It’s set to feature old-school legends like Fab 5 Freddy and Jean-Michel Basquiat, to names like Barry McGee, Mister Cartoon, and emerging talents like KAWS. Accompanying the exhibition are also talks, screenings, audio guides, tours, and an education corner featuring online resources and an interactive graffiti tagging workshop. What’s more, visitors can receive a special edition of TÖÖF cards with fun art facts printed on the back as a cool memento.

3. Flash Day at S.Tattoo Studio

Celebrating its first-ever flash day, S. Tattoo in Sham Shui Po are joining hands with neighbourhood café and bar Slash to keep the ink and the drinks flowing. With styles from five of the studio’s mainstay artists; including y.tattoo.mie, otat.tatoo, paulstattoo_ , m.tattooist.iii , and hopuiness, there are a range of options to choose from for your next piece of eternal body art. What’s more, those who follow both S.Tatoo Studio and Slash on Instagram can receive a 10% discount on all items on the accompanying refreshments menu!

4. Adoption Day with Villa Kunterbunt at Shady Acres

Munchies and mutts are here to fill up your Sunday! Shady Acres are hosting a very special puppy adoption day, joining hands with the Lantau-based Villa Kunterbunt; a dog rescue shelter that has been helping dogs of all ages, breeds, and needs find loving homes. These ex-breeder rescue puppies making their way to Peel Street have all been microchipped and health-checked, and all they need is a loving new home.

Come along and cuddle with some of the cutest puppies that will melt your heart, and for some delectable snacks from Mendel’s to fill your belly. Signature bagels, wine, and cocktails will be on the menu and are ripe for passing around.

5. Vintage Pop Up by Vintage 1961 in Sheung Wan

In spite of shuttering their shopfront in December of last year, local lovers of old-timey goods can visit Vintage 1961’s pop-up store that has found a home atop Sheung Wan’s Uwa Building. Introducing styles from their latest collection, with plenty of cool pre-loved finds, the shop holds a boundless treasure trove of wonderful garments, collector’s kitchenware, and jewellery.

Keep an eye on their Instagram, as they have teased that there will be a special discount code shared!

6. Limited Night Hawk Menu at Quinary

Taking flight in the night, Night Hawk cocktail bar have made the journey to land a pop-up at Hollywood Road’s Quinary. The endeavour is also a collab with Mitcher’s whisky and Los Siete Misterios mezcal, with the specially concocted drinks each featuring one of the spirits. There is the Binary Byzantine that shakes up a negroni with mezcal instead of gin, and the Black Hole Sun that transforms bourbon whisky into a sweet treat with raspberry purée and vanilla ice cream.

Having kicked off this special collaborative menu with a guest shift from the Singaporean bar’s founder Peter Chua and mixologist Nelson Aservatam on Mar. 6, these sleek limited-time cocktails will be on offer for the rest of the month.

7. Rosewood 4th Anniversary Celebrations at Rosewood Hong Kong

Stepping into the fourth year of operations, Rosewood Hong Kong are throwing an exclusive celebration with artfully curated experiences. On top of the ‘An Artful Experience’ room package that doubles up with an all-access pass to Art Basel Hong Kong and an adventure for two on the luxurious Princess Yacht, the hotel is also inviting chefs from Michelin-starred restaurants and Rosewood’s worldwide venues to present their culinary skills that flourish in the city. Prepare your palate for a series of mind-bending menus that see CHAAT coming together with Vicky Lau from MORA, Chef Jose Mascaros bringing his specials to Bayfare Social, and more.

8. ‘EMBLA X RESTAURANT ÄNG’ by Chef Fillip Gemzell and Chef Jim Löfdahl

Though Hong Kong is finally shaking off the winter chill as the Spring heat settles, take a trip in taste to the Nordic region as EMBLA and Chef Jim Löfdahl welcomes Chef Fillip Gemzell from the acclaimed Restaurant ÄNG in Sweden. Drawing from their shared cultural heritage, the two chefs are coming together to tell a story through Nordic cuisine and fine dining cooking that draws from an ingredient-forward approach.

Located in Tvååker of Sweden, Restaurant ÄNG is well-known for providing haute cuisine that keeps sustainability in mind, using fresh produce from local farms, forests, meadows, and waters of the country. The restaurant has earned both a Michelin star and a Michelin Green Star in 2021 for its visionary cuisine.

9. ‘Italian Sunday Roast: Arrosto All’Italiana’ at Ramato

'Sunday Roast’ may feel like a starkly British ritual, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t enjoy a feast of smoked meats with some international flair! Peddling an authentic taste of southern Italy, Ramato has put together a Sunday Brunch experience that reinterprets the meal. Set to recur until the summer, the brunch is also scheduled to take place on Apr. 9, May. 21, Jun. 11, and Jul. 2 to follow.

Ramato will be presenting a new once-per-month Sunday Brunch experience, that brings an elevated twist on the classic pub favourite. Designed to be passed around and shared in true Italiano fashion, the family-style brunch begins with unlimited servings of appetisers like Italian cold cuts and seared tuna with Borlotti beans, and a pasta of Eliche (corkscrew) with slow-cooked beef and caramelised onions. The main course is a trio of classic roasts: homemade porchetta, lamb leg and roast beef, served alongside grilled vegetables;finish on a sweet note with an apple cake that tastes like nonna made it herself.

10. ‘Oma-Sake Dinner’ at WHISK, The Mira

The Mira

Pairing together the Japanese experience of omakase with Japanese sake in a four-course menu, French-Japanese fusion concept WHISK is debuting a new series of dishes crafted by Chef William Lau.

The menu includes four creative dishes that combine the best of the two inspirations, such as gently grilled oyster with fermented kabocha pumpkin and charcoal milk, delicate Japanese baby scallops, tender lamb saddle, and a seasonal dessert of Amaou strawberry floating island. For something different, there are three other premium main courses to choose from, and an extra dish that you can add-on. Upgrade your experience with four premium sake picks, starting from only HK$50.

For those who want to indulge in something truly special, the add-on of a Chef's Wagyu Beef Masterpiece stuffed with Foie Gras is a must-try. However, please note that the dish must be ordered two days in advance.
