adidas Malaysia is giving Peranakan culture a contemporary refresh with the launch of its newest capsule collection.
The drop blends traditional heritage and intricate craftsmanship with everyday, contemporary streetwear, spanning graphic tees, totes, and updated footwear. The highlight of the collection is a reimagined adidas Handball Spezial, revived with subtle Peranakan-inspired details, including retro jersey-style leather stripes and elegant accents.
The collection’s cotton graphic tees also blend minimalism with culturally injected statement designs. The front features a simple and clean Trefoil emblem, while the back sees boldly designed Peranakan postage stamps. The artwork showcases iconic Peranakan elements such as the kebaya, manek shoes, tiffin carrier, and more, under the banner “The Brand with The Three Stripes.”
A minimalist canvas tote bag completes the collection, designed for everyday use. The tote features dual-sided graphics — the Trefoil on one side, and a Peranakan-inspired cabinet on the other. Accessories such as “Made For You” pins and charms also add a personalized touch to the cultural collection.
adidas Malaysia’s Peranakan Collection sees an intersection of the old and new, reflecting a shift towards culturally rooted design and identity into wearable, modern pieces.
