Tourism Malaysia to Showcase Country's Attractions via Metaverse Experience

Prepare to be amazed by Malaysia’s wonders through the metaverse, as Tourism Malaysia has announced the launch of its new campaign, starring multi-talented Malaysian artist Thomas Kok, also known as Mr. Xiao Dong (MRXD).

Made in partnership with WebTVAsia, Colorverse, and Prodigee Asia Talent, the campaign marks Tourism Malaysia’s first venture into the metaverse space with the production of the second season of Thomas’ travel vlog, “Let’s Go MRXD,” and a virtual space through online gaming platform Spatial.

To be released this month, “Let’s Go MRXD Season 2” will follow Thomas’ journey across 12 iconic destinations in central and southern Malaysia. Some of the attractions to be showcased are the Penang Bridge, the Batu Caves, the KL & Petronas Twin Tower in Kuala Lumpur, the Red Square in Melaka, and the Tanjung Piai in Johor, among others.

Meanwhile, the metaverse experience will be available through Spatial. Here, users can participate in mini games where they can accomplish several tasks while exploring Malaysia’s attractions. There will also be meet-and-greet sessions with Thomas in the virtual space, plus lucky fans can get a chance to win tickets to visit the attractions in real life!

“The virtual experience offers users the chance to engage within the digital realm, replicating the sensation of being physically present at the destinations. Furthermore, this immersive journey promises high-quality introductions and meaningful interactions with diverse individuals,” said Dato’ Dr. Ammar Abd. Ghapar, director-general of Tourism Malaysia in a press release.
