Air Asia PlanePhoto by AirAsia/Website

Dreaming of seeing Big Ben, the iconic red buses, and the Tower of London? AirAsia is set to turn that dream into reality as the airline confirms the launch of its Kuala Lumpur–London route, with a stopover in Bahrain, beginning June 26, 2026.

AirAsia X (AAX) Berhad recently marked a major milestone in its global expansion with the announcement of two much-anticipated international routes, connecting Kuala Lumpur to Bahrain and onward to London Gatwick Airport (KUL-BAH-LGW). The Bahrain–London sector will be AAX’s second Fifth-Freedom route, signaling the airline’s move beyond its Asian home base as it expands its reach in the global budget travel market. These routes also establish Bahrain as AAX’s first global hub, making it a key gateway between Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.

“This is a defining step in the next phase of AAX’s growth. Bahrain, as our strategic aviation hub, allows us to connect Asia with the Middle East and Europe more effectively while creating a scalable platform for future growth,” said Tony Fernandes, CEO of Capital A and Advisor to AAX.

The new KUL-BAH-LGW will operate with AAX’s A330 fleet, with Kuala Lumpur as its major gateway, connecting travelers from Australia, Indonesia, Vietnam, and other key markets while creating a more affordable and convenient pathway to Bahrain and London.

To celebrate this milestone, AAX is offering introductory first-come, first-served promotional fares from RM99* and RM199* all-in-one way from Kuala Lumpur to Bahrain and London, with subsequent fares starting from RM299* and RM399* on both sectors. Kuala Lumpur’s Iconic Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad Reopens to the Public

One of Kuala Lumpur’s most beloved treasures has finally been restored.

The Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad, a late 19th-century building at Dataran Merdeka, has officially reopened to the public on Feb. 2, 2026, following an 11-month restoration, welcoming visitors back into its storied walls.

The reopening marks the return of Block 1 of the historic complex along Jalan Raja, which had been closed as part of conservation works and restoration efforts under the Warisan KL initiative.

Originally known as the Secretariat Building and for housing the superior courts of Malaysia, namely the Federal Court of Malaysia, the Court of Appeals, and the High Court of Malaya, the historical structure has long been a part of Malaysia’s national story.

It was the site of Malaysia’s first flag-raising ceremony in 1957 and later became the place where independence and national day celebrations take place. Since 2007, the word “Merdeka” has been fixed at the bottom of the clock tower, a reminder of the country’s independence and the building’s cultural importance for Malaysia.

With its 41-metre-high clock tower, Moorish-inspired architecture, and 95-metre flagpole, the Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad remains a central feature of Kuala Lumpur’s cultural landscape. The restoration not only aims to preserve its heritage but also aims to boost tourism and enhance its overall safety and accessibility.

The reopening allows visitors to experience the landmark beyond its original administrative role, now as a historical site and as a breathing, living part of Kuala Lumpur’s city life.

The Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad Complex will see the openings of immersive exhibition spaces and galleries, retail and craft stores, food and beverage outlets, and more in the coming months.

Learn more about the Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad by visiting the website and following their Instagram.

Malaysia to Get New Passport & MyKad with Enhanced Features

Malaysia Passport 1Photo by Immigration Department of Malaysia/Website

Malaysia is getting a fresh look for its passport and national ID (MyKad), with redesigned versions expected to roll out within the next six months.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail shared the update with reporters following the Home Ministry’s 2026 Ministerial Address last Thursday (Jan. 8, 2026). According to him, the new passport and MyKad will come with enhanced security features, boosting both their reliability and overall integrity. The initiative also coincides with the Home Ministry’s strategic direction for 2026 and is one of the Visit Malaysia Year initiatives that aims to strengthen border control and immigration measures nationwide.

With Malaysian passports ranked the third most trusted in the world for visa-free travel, the Home Minister emphasized that renewing them is crucial to maintaining the country's international standing.

“These milestones are important as our current passport ranks third in terms of trust, allowing Malaysian passport holders to travel with minimal visa requirements. Yesterday, I was briefed by the Immigration director general, together with the chief secretary, on the credibility of our passport. We aim to have a new-look passport for Malaysians within six months,” he said.

The new-look passports and enhanced identity cards are expected to be implemented at the end of the second quarter or the start of the third quarter this year. According to Malay Mail, the minister assured that existing passports and MyKad will continue to remain valid until their expiry.

“Continue using your current documents until they reach their expiry. Replacements will only be necessary at that time. Details on the implementation schedule, updated features, and additional announcements will be provided in due course,” he said.

He also mentioned that there’s no need for the public to rush to the offices to apply, as the public will be informed about six months in advance.
