"Floral Princess," regarded as one of the most popular Cantonese operas of all time, will be staged by the Sands China Performing Arts Program this coming weekend, July 28-30, at The Venetian Theatre in celebration of its 65th anniversary. The show is produced by Utopia Cantonese Opera Workshop.
The drama is based on the classic play by Tong Dik Sang, known as the leading Cantonese opera scriptwriter of the 20th century. "Floral Princess" tells the tragic story of Princess Coeng-ping, her capital's fall from power, and the travails she and her fiancé must face apart and together. "Floral Princess'" classic theme song, "A Fragrant Death," has since gone on to become a household tune in many Chinese homes.
For three days, be mesmerised by "Floral Princess'" exquisite music, magnificent theatre design, and timeless story of love and loss. Different generations of actors and actresses meld in this production, as they take turns in bringing the characters of Princess Coeng-ping and Zua Sai-hin to life. Look forward to the performances of Liang Zha-ming, Monica Bai, Wang Zhiliang, Lin Yingshi, Lee Lung, Nan Fung, and more this weekend.
