The Sound of Music’s China Debut at Macao Cultural Centre in Aug.
The hills of Macau will be alive with The Sound of Music this August, as the beloved stage musical returns to the Grand Auditorium of the Macao Cultural Centre. The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) announced the China debut of this world-renowned production, which is set to run for 16 shows from Aug. 10 - 22.
This 2015 edition of the musical, helmed by three-time Tony award winner Jack O’Brien, features an international cast of seasoned performers and rising stars. Jill-Christine Wiley stars as Maria Rainer, Trevor Martin as Captain von Trapp, and other notable cast members include Daniel Fullerton, Lauren Kidwell, Joshua La Force, Lauren O’Brien, and Gail Bennett.
After its Broadway premiere and US tour, the production embarked on a world tour in 2020, with Asia as the first stop. The upcoming Macau performances fulfil the IC's earlier pledge to bring international-level stage productions from Broadway or London’s West End to the city.
The Sound of Music, a classic film adaptation starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, has a rich history in Macau, with at least two prior performances at the Venetian Theater and Macao Cultural Centre.
