Gather ‘round Disney fans! SMthing magical just popped up in the county’s largest shopping mall!
The first-ever Disney store in Southeast Asia is finally here and oh boy, there’s a lot to unpack! Disney Store by SM is located at the SM Mall of Asia, Level 1 North Main Mall, and is the new home to shop for items inspired by your favorite movies from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars. Much like other Disney stores across the globe, shoppers can expect original merchandise such as adorable plush toys, costume apparel and homeware, and collectibles.
“We are thrilled that Disney fans in the Philippines can connect with their favorite characters in exciting new ways at Disney Store by SM, with thoughtful collections and retail elements. We look forward to bringing the magic of Disney closer to home for guests of all ages, and creating happiness for them every day,” said Sara Grewal, Vice President of Retail, Disney Consumer Products Asia-Pacific.
Children and the young-at-heart can also discover several photo spots around the store inspired by unforgettable Disney movie moments. Be part of Ariel’s underwater world, pose alongside our friendly neighborhood superhero Spider-Man, and meet Mickey, Minnie, and all their good ‘ole pals.
Disney has officially sprinkled some pixie dust over Manila and we’re here to show you some of the fantastic merchandise you can find on your visit.
A Whole New World of Disney Merchandise
Original Disney merchandise has begun popping up at local toy stores in the past few years but trust us when we say that this store offers a lot more than the surface-level Disney toys.
For one, the store displays a wide range of character costumes. You can find some of the iconic Disney Princess dresses such as Cinderella’s ball gown (P4,249) and Elsa’s “Let it Go” dress (P4,049). You can even wear her pretty little snow boots (P2,449) to match too!
Another eye-catching display in the Disney Princess section are the Disney Animators’ Dolls (P2,649), which celebrates the heritage of classic Disney animation through baby princess dolls. The store stocks all of the Disney princesses from Snow White and Pocahontas to Tinkerbell and Moana. There’s also a section for the latest Disney Princess film “Wish” where you can find Asha dolls and Star pillows!
In the Pixar section, we saw awesome items inspired by movies like “Cars”, “Monsters Inc.” and “Toy Story.” Get your own Scream Tank tumbler (P2,849) or travel in style with the Lightning Macqueen hand-carry luggage (P5,049)!
For Star Wars fans, there’s a wide range of items too from graphic tees (from P2,249++), action figures, and brace yourselves… lightsaber tumblers (P3,649)!
Agents and Avengers will have a blast at the Marvel section as it highlights merch from some of the most popular movies from “Iron Man,” to “Guardians of the Galaxy.” You can find Spidey’s suit (P4,449), movie caps (from P1,249++), and action figures (from P999++). Collectors can also get their hands on Marvel figures, Funko Pops, LEGO merch, and stuffed toys. You’ll also find an impressive array of popular collector figurines from the Jim Shore designs.
And speaking of soft toys, their collection has got to be one of the highlights of the store. You can find character plushies everywhere like Simba from “The Lion King” (P1,749) and Lotso from “Toy Story 3” (P2,649) — which we might add smells exactly like strawberries! You can collect Winnie the Pooh and all his friends, and other iconic characters like Donald Duck and Stitch, too!
Disney Adults looking to Disneyfy their homes can find some 3D sculpted mugs and dishware such as the “I Am Groot” (P1,649) and the adorable Cocker Spaniel from “Lady and the Tramp,” Lady mugs (P2,349) which were too adorable not to buy.
One other notable part of the store is the Halloween merchandise which features some items you can find at Disney Parks such as the Mickey Mouse Pumpkin Light-Up Bubble Wands (P2,249) and the Mickey Jack-o’-Lantern glow necklaces (P1,649).
And while we’re on the subject of seasonal merch, Mickey already knows that the Philippines celebrates Christmas early and brought out a cheery display of holiday goodies! Some of our favorites include the “Home Alone” knit sweater (P4,449) and the Mickey and Friends decorative ornaments (P3,249).
Price Comparisons
As the saying goes, “all magic comes with a price,” and so does Disney’s magical merchandise, which you might have already noticed are priced a little higher than toys available in local toy stores.
If we compare it to Hong Kong’s Disney store, prices are slightly higher by a few hundred pesos. For example, the Cinderella dress is priced at HK$549, approximately P3,977 (SRP: P4,249) while the Halloween glow necklace is at HK$149, which is around P1,079 (SRP: P1,649). Still cheaper than buying a plane ticket to visit a Disney Park, though!
It may be a little steep, but we believe each high-quality merchandise is worth it and would certainly bring much joy to Disney fans and visitors alike.
WISHing for More
Disney Store Philippines certainly met our expectations in terms of fantastic merch finds and store layout. It has given Filipinos, as well as visitors in the region, a chance to experience and bring home the magic from some of their beloved movies and characters.
The store’s layout is massive, much like the existing stores in other parts of the world. It’s also evident how Filipino hospitality blended with the warmth of Disney through its smiling salespeople who are ready to help and assist you, making it a welcoming retail destination where you can make unforgettable memories with your loved ones.
As for our wish list, we hope to see merchandise that can be categorized as Philippine-exclusive, the way London’s Oxford Street Disney store has a Mickey Mouse plush dressed like the famed King’s Guards or how the Disney Store in Venice, Italy has a chef Mickey plush with a pizza pie. Philippine-exclusive designs on merch such as tote bags and stationery would be cool to see and may entice visitors from other parts of the world to come and purchase as souvenirs.
Another item we didn’t see at the store and would very much love to get are the Disney pins which are bought and traded across Disney parks and stores around the world. We’re also looking forward to more seasonal and park merchandise, which will hopefully change the displays through the months, giving locals and visitors something to look forward to every time they visit.
