ICYDK: ‘Shrek 5’ Is Set to Hit the Theatres on July 1, 2026
Raise your hand if part of your childhood includes watching films by DreamWorks Animation, particularly the Shrek movie series! If you’re missing the adventures of our favorite ogre family and friends, then you’d love to hear the news that they are coming back for the fifth franchise!
Slated to hit the big screen on July 1, 2026, “Shrek 5” is said to have been in production since April 2023. Although the plot remains a mystery, we can expect some of the original cast members to return, namely Mike Myers as Shrek, Eddie Murphy as Donkey, and Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona.
With that, you still have an ample amount of time to rewatch all movies to prepare for the new one – especially since the last film came out more than a decade ago! The first one was released in 2001, followed by Shrek 2 in 2004, then Shrek the Third in 2007, and Shrek Forever After in 2010.
After that, Puss in Boots spinoffs were released in 2011 and 2022. By the way, Eddie Murphy teased that a Donkey standalone movie is next up after Shrek 5 as reported by Collider – so, that’s something to look forward to!
