Starbucks Opens Thailand’s Largest Greener Store at One Bangkok
Starbucks expanded its sustainability efforts in Thailand by unveiling its fourth flagship store and largest Greener Store at One Bangkok.
As a certified Greener Store, the Starbucks Reserve™ at One Bangkok follows strict environmental standards in water conservation, energy efficiency, waste reduction, and responsible materials.
“We are thrilled to launch our largest Greener Store in Thailand, marking the 80th in the Asia Pacific region. Honoring the country’s rich coffee heritage while fulfilling our environmental promise to give more than we take from the planet, this milestone store is a testament to the strength of our partnership with Coffee Concepts Thailand and our shared journey toward a resource-positive future,” said Emmy Kan, President of Starbucks Asia Pacific.
The coffee company aims to certify 10,000 Greener Stores across the globe by 2025 to achieve its goal of reducing carbon emissions, water usage, and landfill waste by 50% by 2030.
Sustainability Practices and Elevating Customer Experience
The two-story, 860-square-meter store at One Bangkok is designed to become a “Third Place” — a haven for people to gather, connect, and enjoy good coffee all the while prioritizing environmental sustainability. The store merges Thai cultural elements with bespoke designs that honor the country’s rich heritage and highlight Starbucks’ connection to the local community.
From the moment you enter, you’ll be able to feel Starbucks’ signature warmth and that distinctive atmosphere that brings out the essence of Thai culture.
“This unique store exemplifies our unwavering commitment to the Thai market and our customers, highlighting our dedication to the environment, farmers, and the community,” said Nednapa Srisamai, Managing Director of Starbucks Thailand. “By blending our core values with local artistry, we’ve created more than just a coffee shop. This space is testament to our promise of serving exceptional coffee while making meaningful contributions to both the community and the environment. It’s where tradition meets innovation, and every cup tells a story of sustainability and our local culture.”
The store also features many firsts in terms of facilities and designs that integrate innovative sustainable design elements, including Thailand's first comprehensive waste recycling area, energy-efficient systems, and sustainable materials that align with the eco-friendly vision of the One Bangkok development.
This Greener Store is also the first to have a Condiment Bar, which encourages customers to rinse and dispose of leftover drinks properly.
"The Starbucks Reserve™ One Bangkok is a testament to our continuous dedication to environmental stewardship," said Juthatip Kengmana, Social Impact & Sustainability Manager at Starbucks Thailand. "Every aspect has been thoughtfully designed with sustainability in mind, reinforcing our dedication to eco-friendly practices. It will play a crucial role in advancing future environmental achievements across Thailand.”
The brand is on track to open 20 Greener Stores in Thailand by the end of 2024, and recently introduced the sustainability campaign’ "LITTLE CHOICES. BIG CHANGES.," which encourages customers to embrace the ongoing practice of bringing their own cups in exchange for a THB10 discount at all stores across Thailand.
Championing Local Artistry and Innovation
The overview of the store is by the landscapes of Northern Thailand and its hill tribe communities. Centering on the concept of the "Tree Top Canopy," the store’s design reflects the place where coffee is grown. The tree represents the coffee-making stations while the canopy is a seating area where guests can lounge about and enjoy their drinks.
This Greener Store also boasts some fantastic artworks and installations crafted by local artists that celebrate Thai coffee culture, including a gorgeous ceiling textile piece by Ease Studio and a captivating mural in the community room by local artist Pavisa Meesrenon (PABAJA).
“We have created a space that reflects the beauty and traditions of our roots while serving as a welcoming haven in the heart of Bangkok. This store embodies our vision of connecting people through exceptional coffee and beautiful spaces, where every detail — from the layout to the artwork — tells a story of local culture and sustainability,” said Thanasak Kulrattanarak, Store Development Director of Starbucks Thailand.
There’s also the OVISO™ espresso machine which is housed under the counter, encouraging interaction between customers and coffee masters during the brewing process. This way, customers can be part of the coffee-making process.
