Bondee is the latest app to captivate the attention of the youth around the world. But what is it exactly and how does it differ from Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter?
Taking inspiration from the hit 2000s PC game The Sims, Bondee is a Gen Z-oriented platform that lets users build their own virtual houses in the metaverse. According to marketing and sales firm TechTarget, the metaverse is an iteration of the internet as a single, universal, and immersive alternate world “where humans experience life in ways they could not in the physical world.”
Released in early January by Singapore-based company Metadream, Bondee aims to encourage people to connect, interact, chat, and engage in a fun and exciting way.
The newborn app allows people to create a virtual version of themselves through a wide range of face shapes, hairstyles, clothing, footwear, and accessories that fit their personality and style. Users may also decorate their homes with the variety of furniture and household items available.
Similar to Facebook and Twitter, Bondee lets its residents post a “status” to update their friends and neighbours. Like Instagram, users may also upload well-curated photographs and hang them up on the walls of their virtual bedroom.
Apart from interacting with close friends, Bondee residents can also meet people from different parts of the globe. Its “floating” feature allows users to explore the sea and hunt for floating bottles. Each bottle comes with a special message from a person abroad, which the user can respond to.
