Japanese Same-Sex Dating Reality 'The Boyfriend' to Premiere on Netflix
Just in time for Pride Month, streaming platform Netflix has announced that a new queer reality dating show is coming soon to our screens!
Set to premiere on July 9, “The Boyfriend” is Japan’s first same-sex romance reality series, featuring nine guys who are looking for love. The show will see the participants living under the same roof and working shifts in a peppermint green-hued coffee truck for a month, forging friendships and romance along the way.
To level up the excitement, Netflix also released an official teaser video of the reality show, accompanied by the song “Dazed & Confused” by Korean indie rock band Glen Check. The platform also unveiled three teaser posters, one of which is an illustration by Korean artist Son Eun-kyoung.
According to Netflix, the show will be hosted by various popular personalities, including drag queen Durian Lollobrigida, Japanese actress Chiaki Horan, actor Yoshimi Tokui, MEGUMI, and singer Thelma Aoyama.
“We started out wanting to highlight the young men’s friendships and personalities. Our focus wasn’t just on romance but also on spending time together and experiencing personal growth,” said executive producer and Netflix Japan’s Dai Ota in a press release.
The show will be composed of 10 episodes, to be released every Tuesday in four weekly installments. Tune in for “The Boyfriend” starting this July via Netflix.
