An Homage to Friends and Favorites

Dressing up as a beloved person or character from the past is a wonderful way to pay homage to one’s memories. As they say, “imitation is the best form of flattery." This Halloween season, some celebrities took it literally, dressing up as incredible characters that they hold dear.

Take Heidi Klum and her husband, Tom Kaulitz, whose incredible E.T. transformation took everyone by surprise. They are seen in everything from wigs to prosthetics, the character’s signature glowing finger included.

“As a nine year old in Germany, E.T. introduced me to the idea that there’s life outside planet Earth,” Heidi wrote on her Instagram post. “So for the last year, we all put our heads together to figure out how to put my own stamp on such an iconic character.”

Another fantastic example of homage dressing is Paris Hilton’s tribute to Britney Spears in her 1998 music video for “…Baby One More Time”. A known friend of the superstar, Paris openly expressed her adoration for Britney on Instagram, calling her an “icon” in her post.

Two famous women of color also went as popular Halle Berry characters. Halle Bailey’s take on Halle Berry’s character in “Die Another Day” sees her donning an orange bikini and an artfully styled pixie cut. But names aside, the actress was definitely a dead ringer for Giacinta "Jinx" Johnson, Halle Berry’s character in the James Bond franchise.

South African songstress, Tyla, also came to slay as Halle Berry’s character, Sharon Stone, in the 1994 live-action movie “The Flintstones”, wearing a tiger print midriff top and short shorts.

Zillennials are bound to remember that time in the early 2000s when “The Lizzie McGuire Movie” was all anyone talked about. In 2003, the iconic movie – now 21 years old! – made waves with a chart-topping soundtrack and an iconic Italian background to boot. It also introduced us to Lizzie McGuire’s Italian doppleganger, Isabella Parigi, who became the 2024 Halloween inspiration for Kylie Jenner.

Dressed in an identical green pantsuit, Kylie Jenner lipsynched to “This is What Dreams are Made Of” with her sister, Kendall Jenner for Halloween. Kendall, on the other hand, wore a Lizzie McGuire-inspired silver pantsuit outfit, similar to the outfit Hillary Duff wore at the finale of her movie when she acted as Lizzie McGuire.

Hailey Bieber and her husband, Justin Bieber, also donned an adorable couple's costume inspired by popular 2000s cartoon, "Kim Possible." The two posed in black long-sleeves and cargo pants, carrying their new baby who we assume is dressed as Rufus, Ron's naked molerat in the series.
