Thailand's Konvy Beauty, Manila's New Beauty Playground, Has Arrived

Calling all Beauty enthusiasts! Thailand’s beloved beauty playground, Konvy Beauty, finally arrives on Philippine shores with the opening of its first-ever flagship store at Robinsons Galleria.

Founded in Thailand in 2012 as an online beauty store, Konvy Beauty has since grown into one of Southeast Asia’s most trusted e-commerce destinations for all things beauty and skincare. The brand entered the Philippine market in 2023 through its official stores on Lazada and Shopee, but last Feb. 2, they’re taking the experience offline, bringing signature brands and all the trending beauty products to Filipino consumers.

When asked why they chose to open a store in Manila, JC Chen, Chief Commercial Officer of Konvy Beauty, told The Beat Asia, “We looked at Southeast Asia, and we saw the Philippines has a very young demographic. We also did some surveys and realized that a lot of Filipino consumers want more access to brands and assortment. We believe that in all of Southeast Asia, the Philippines is underserved in this regard. The other thing we also saw is that when we look at where consumers buy cosmetic products, there are not a lot of choices. So, because of this gap, we were very excited about this market.”

The physical retail space is located on Level 2 of Robinsons Galleria, welcoming shoppers to a beauty wonderland, featuring a curated mix of global favorites alongside beloved Thai, local, and K-Beauty picks — all of which are 100% authentic.

Some well-known brands in the mix include Mediheal, a K-Beauty skincare favorite known for its toner pads and sheet masks. With Konvy being its official retailer in the Philippines, you can get your hands on many of its bestsellers, such as the varying toner pads (P1,250), serums (from P1,050), sleeping masks (P125), cleansers (P625), lip care products, and more. You can also get the viral COSRX snail serum (P950), Face Republic’s skincare line, and even Korea’s top pore-minimizing serum from FRANKLY, available in 40 ml (P499) and 60ml (P699) variants.

As a retailer from Thailand, you’ll also find many notable Thai brands such as 4U2, a beloved Thai makeup brand; Joji, known for its sustainable skincare products, and the Konvy Beauty-exclusive Oni, which features various makeup tools that cater to different aspects of makeup application, from contouring to blending. “You can see how we display the store. We are very young. We’re very trendy. A lot of the brands are actually not originally available in offline stores. In Thailand, we are like the pioneers for new and trending brands. They might be selling well on TikTok, but not available offline, so we wanted to be the first one. We wanted to replicate that exciting shopping experience, so when you come to Konvy, there’s always something new. It’ll be more about bringing brands that were not previously available in the Philippines into the market. Kony wants to become that bridge,” said JC.

While already available on several online platforms like Lazada, Shopee, and TikTok Shop, having an offline store significantly enhances Konvy’s consumer experience. It allows shoppers not only to cross-check a product’s effectiveness and reliability through online reviews and makeup tutorial videos, but also to try the products on the spot — testing shades and formulas directly on their skin to see how they truly look and perform.

The CCO also shared that more collaborations are on the way, specifically with Filipino brands to expand their local offerings. He also mentioned that later on, an official mobile app may be introduced to further provide customers with a wider range of unique experiences.

LocaManna Founder Yumi Sakamoto on Freedom, Fabric, and Future of Fashion

In a city where everything moves fast, including fashion, there are still a number of designers who advocate for a slower kind of momentum. One of them is Yumi Christina Sakamoto, founder of EDYA 1929, a cultural luxury label rooted in heritage, and LocaManna, her more relaxed, resortwear counterpart.

Through LocaManna, a Japanese-Filipino sustainable brand with a focus on menswear and unisex garments, Yumi Sakamoto creates pieces that feel light on the body, yet mindful in their making — garments that move easily between the sea and city, structure and softness, all rooted in intention.

Where her first label, EDYA 1929, carefully reconstructs vintage kimonos into fashionably contemporary heirlooms, LocaManna leans to freedom: relaxed silhouettes, breathable textiles, and a design language shaped by movement rather than the rules.

Rooted in Japanese technique and Filipino warmth, LocaManna is a representation of both culture and calm, a part of a growing shift towards a quieter, slower, and more thoughtful idea of luxury. One that values how clothes are made just as much as how they look.

The Beat Manila sat down with Yumi Christina Sakamoto for a conversation about the ethos behind LocaManna, her attitude towards menswear and fashion, and what sustainability means to her — beyond the fabric.

LocaManna and the Idea of Freedom

After moving constantly between Japan and the Philippines in search of inspiration, Yumi found herself longing for clothing that felt light, free, and expressive — pieces she could carry with her on her travels, just like the life she was living, and something that fellow travelers could enjoy too.

This longing became the spark for LocaManna — born from her journeys across Southeast Asia and fueled by a desire for movement, escape, and spontaneity. Her Japanese-Filipino heritage also shaped the brand; growing up with two cultures taught her to embrace diversity and eventually encouraged her to create a resortwear line that celebrates the adventurous spirit of life.

The name “LocaManna” is also an expression of this dynamic energy. “Loca,” while meaning “crazy” in Spanish, represents freedom and a wild, untamed spirit. “Manna,” on the other hand, comes from the biblical term that means “blessing” and the Filipino term for “inheritance.” Together, these two words embrace life as both an adventure and a gift.

For the brand’s visual language, LocaManna draws inspiration from tropical textures like woven fabrics, sun-washed linens, and organic prints — translating this ethos through fluid silhouettes, breathable fabrics, and colors that feel bold and alive. Each material used in their designs is handmade, hand-painted, and thoughtfully sourced from local artisans, with whom Yumi loves to collaborate.

For the brand’s second collection, Yumi shared that she sourced the materials from Bali, with the designs inspired by the island’s spirit of slow living. “I love to collaborate with the locals, so I try to source fabrics that they recommend,” she shared.

Rethinking Menswear

For Yumi, focusing on menswear for her newest collection felt like a push in the right direction — a way to gently challenge the existing rules of men’s fashion.

“Menswear felt more unexpected in the way I envisioned resortwear,” she shared. “I wanted to introduce gentleness, colors, and emotion to the clothing without removing strength.” In her eyes, clothes can be shared and experimented with — a man’s shirt could be worn as a dress, and familiar pieces can take on as many lives as it pleases.

Yumi designs LocaManna’s pieces with a direct focus on proportion, intention, and silhouette. Balance, to her, is everything. “The fabric choices, the strength in cut,” she began. “When the structure and drapes come together, the pieces naturally become gender-fluid without feeling formless.”

Yumi’s approach to menswear comes at a time when the fashion scene in Manila is shifting — becoming more experimental and open to softer and fluid silhouettes. However, she still holds out hope for something more in that regard. “I hope to see more color, emotional storytelling, and craftsmanship in structure,” she explained. “Menswear doesn’t have to be always powerful.”

She also compared the fashion scene in Tokyo and Manila, in which she found fashion in Tokyo to be more limited, stricter with rules, while Manila is free, expressive, and has personality. “In the Philippines, there are no rules, that’s why I can do men’s fashion here because I can create whatever I like and people don’t judge,” she shared.

The Quiet Approach to Sustainability

More than just another fashion brand, LocaManna carries a subtly powerful commitment to sustainability. On a more personal level, Yumi Sakamoto says that sustainability is also about emotional longevity.

“I design pieces meant to be worn for years, not seasons,” she started. “It’s also about cultural respect — honoring the hands, histories, and environments behind each garment.”

Before moving to the Philippines, Yumi used to work as a fashion designer for a major brand in Japan. There, she witnessed how much clothing was produced — and just as quickly, how much of it was being thrown away. This cycle of overproduction, she noted, deeply affects the environment, and in turn, the laborers behind it.

In a sense, LocaManna moves against the current of today’s fast, ever-evolving, and disposable fashion culture. It consciously produces a limited number of products, crafted from preloved kimonos, deadstock materials, and proudly local Filipino textiles, defining itself as a brand that holds exclusivity with mindfulness in tow.

Looking ahead, Yumi Sakamoto says that LocaManna is heading towards refinement, growth, and intention. “I want to explore deeper storytelling, stronger silhouettes, and deeper collaborations with local artisans,” Yumi said. “I want to collaborate with creatives — whether that’s in fashion or not.”

LocaManna’s journey as a brand is still unfolding, and with every piece they create, Yumi hopes that it becomes a part of someone’s story too. “I hope they feel the courage to travel, to slow down, to carry a memory of freedom,” she said.

“I don’t want people to be finished with my clothes after one season. Clothing should last years, and maybe be inherited from parents to their children. I want fashion to be more valuable.”

Filipino beauty brand blk Cosmetics has opened its first-ever flagship boutique on Dec. 8, 2025, choosing Ayala Malls Manila Bay as the home of its largest store to date.

Following years of expansion, store openings, and kiosk debuts all over the country, the brand has now unveiled a flagship space designed in its signature soft blush-pink palette, paired with sleek, soft-futurist minimalism that reflects blk’s modern and uncomplicated beauty ethos.

The celebration of the flagship store’s opening doubled with the debut of the brand’s newest concept, blk Café. Located on the right side of the boutique, the café serves a selection of drinks — coffee, non-coffee, and signatures — that elevate the shopping experience.

For coffee, blk has partnered with Yardstick Coffee for their in-house brews, using their Switch blend for a full-bodied, rich, and velvety cup. They serve both hot and cold drinks ranging from P140 to P220 — Americano, Latte, Toasted Biscoff Spanish Latte, Breve Latte, Sea Salt Latte, and Tiramisu Cream Cheese Latte.

For non-coffee, blk partnered with The Superfood Grocer for a selection of matcha-based drinks — Pure Matcha (P190), Sea Salt Matcha Latte (P200), and Butter Cookie Matcha Latte (P220).

Their signature teas were named after the newest blk Scents, enhancing the experience of trying them out for the first time in-store: Lazy Mornings (Fig and Grapefruit, P150), Candied Kisses (Apple and Passionfruit, P150), Al Fresco Summer (Tangerine and Lemon, P150), Slow Dance (Pear, Wintermelon, & Sea Salt Cream, P150), and Quiet Ember (Jasmine + Milk, P150).

The opening of blk Cosmetics’ flagship boutique + café concept also came with the launch of the newest blk Scents — a new collection of perfumes that were made to capture intimate and personal feelings. The bottles, shaped like the blk logo with a cute gradient effect, were thoughtfully designed in Spain with the dip in the middle allowing for an easy grip and precise hold.

The collection includes five fragrances: Al Fresco Summer, Slow Dance, Candied Kisses, Lazy Mornings, and Quiet Ember.

All perfumes were made with a concentrated blend of 25% fragrance oils, which are made to last for up to 12 hours. The bottles retail for P599 (20ml) and P1,199 (50ml), with the full set available for a discounted price of P2,499 from P2,995 (20ml) and P4,999 from P5,996 (50ml).

One of the most jaw-dropping moments when the trailer for “Wicked: For Good” dropped earlier this year was seeing Ariana Grande walking down the aisle in a gorgeous white gown.

One of our favorite looks in “Wicked Part I” is Glinda’s “Popular” dress, a hot pink ensemble made with a long tulle bolero with spiral-like patterns on the shoulders and at the skirt’s hem. It’s playful, pretty, and carries the very essence of Glinda’s character.

In the same premiere, Cynthia wore a glorious Prada ensemble consisting of a blue satin tech dress with a full skirt embellished by laminated vinyl inlays. It was also paired with a black leather belt and a laminated vinyl cape. We don’t know about you, but she was looking fly. Definitely a look that defied gravity.

What we loved most about the dress is the blue and black combo. The midnight blue is a nice pop of color among the sea of blacks, and it’s a great way to stand out in the crowd. Designer Chris Nick Channels Unapologetic Sensuality for MNL Fashion Week

“Sex sells.” And oh, how Chris Nick embodies it beautifully in his Spring/Summer 2026 collection.

At MNL Fashion Week 2025, Chris Nick didn’t just showcase his newest pieces — he staged a statement. His S/S 2026 collection was a stripped-down study on structure and sensuality, made for the modern femme. It was a detailed, unfiltered exploration of sex and desire through flawless tailoring, statement fabrics, and sleek monochromes.

Beneath the dim lights of the Fashion Tent, his “angels” glided down the runway dressed in alluring reinterpretations of the tuxedo, with standout dresses that captured the finesse of a woman fully embracing her sensuality. Each look blurred the line between elegance and provocation — a reminder that one’s sensuality isn’t something to hide, but something to claim with pride.

In a city still learning to embrace its boldness, Chris Nick truly delivered a collection that was both a mirror and a manifesto — a reflection of who he is, and what anyone can be: chic, self-assured, and unapologetically sensual.

The Beat Manila caught up with Chris Nick after Manila’s most fashionable weekend to talk about his signature style code, what Manila’s fashion scene could be, and what it means to be Chris Nick.

From LA to Manila: A Homecoming in High Fashion

After making his mark on the international stage — from LA Fashion Week in 2022 and New York Fashion Week in 2024 — Chris Nick makes a confident return to Manila — bringing with him that same unapologetic edge and signature sensuality that have defined his aesthetic since launching his brand in 2019.

“Oh my, what a show that was!” he recalls of his LA debut, where a collection balancing grunge, ‘90s minimalism, and a Filipino twist caught global attention. One thing that remained the same since then was his distinctive identity — one with class, elegance, and allure in equal measure.

“I guess you can see from each collection I present, it becomes more and more unapologetic and hyper sensual — it’s me as a person,” he continued.

For his show at the inaugural MNL Fashion Week, where all of Manila’s best dressed gathered for four nights filled with fashion, flair, and creativity, Chris Nick stood out for his work on structured sensuality. Seeing himself and all his creations in the spotlight was a “kink.” He still hasn’t gotten used to it, but dare he say he loved every moment.

For his newest collection, Chris Nick drew from a plethora of influences — his travels, the nights that lingered, and the experiences that have shaped him. Yet at its core, he said, inspiration comes from the everyday.

“Really, the inspiration is my everyday life and music,” he shared. “I design based on the experiences I've lived and the things I’ve liked growing up. Whether it’s a film, a novel, a city — maybe music, a person, pop culture, or a club, or even sexual urges.”

From these inspirations emerges a concept Chris Nick calls “sensuality with restraint,” a signature he creates by marrying sharp, masculine tailoring with soft, romantic silhouettes. It’s long been a staple of his style code, and for him, it comes naturally.

“I don’t really think about it much; it’s just really what comes to mind,” he explained. “I don’t force it in a way, nor do I really have to think hard about it. When it’s in you — it’s just in you, I guess.”

Known for his mastery of black and white, Chris Nick expanded his palette for this collection to include creamy neutrals, earthy browns, and shades of ivory — a nod to skin, intimacy, and sex. Against this palette, his precision came alive in designs that whispered, “business at the front, party at the back.”

For Chris Nick, sex comes in the play of textures and fabrics, and of course, in sleek, crisp tuxedos. His muse? “Myself,” he said. “For the lack of a better term.”

On the runway, structured and tailored tuxes were contrasted with flowing, fluid fabrics. Tuxedo variations were paired with dresses that draped, hugged, or cut sharply, creating graceful movement as the models walked.

Standout looks from the runway included a cream chest-baring bodycon dress with flowing sleeves; an earthy brown, crisp tuxedo paired with a fluid skirt of the same color; a black structured and flowing two-piece set with fluid tailoring; an all-black long coat detailed with shirring on one side; a black tuxedo with an open back; a sheer, sparkly black sleeveless dress; a black cowl-necked long dress; and an ivory-cream dress with a high slit and a train that caught light with every movement.

One word truly encapsulates the meaning of Chris Nick’s collection, which he himself has used on numerous occasions: sensuality.

On Fitting In Manila’s Fashion Scene

Manila’s current fashion scene is a melting pot of styles — on one side, clean, minimal aesthetics dominated by natural and neutral tones; on the other, bold, colorful statements that mix and match different influences.

That’s the beauty of fashion — it’s a way to express individuality and personality. Yet, with so many styles competing for attention in mainstream media, it can also feel quite overwhelming and difficult for designers to find their own space to thrive.

For Chris Nick, whose signature blend of sharp, masculine tailoring and fluid, feminine silhouettes has defined his brand since 2019, he’s steadily carved out his own space in Manila’s fashion scene.

Just six months after the launch of his brand, he landed on magazine covers, runway appearances, and the hearts of celebrities like Max Collins, Rhian Ramos, Chie Filomeno, and LA Aguinaldo. In 2022, he made his international debut at LA Fashion Week, presenting his S/S 2023 collection, “Elegant Sensuality,” followed by New York Fashion Week in 2024, where his S/S 2025 collection highlighted the appeal of belts.

Manila’s fashion scene has long been driven by trends — whatever fashionistas and style leaders wear, everyone else follows. Chris Nick, however, sets himself apart. He doesn’t chase trends; he defines his own, staying true to his identity while allowing his signature style to speak for itself.

Amid all the noise of ever-changing aesthetics, Chris Nick shared his thoughts on where Manila’s fashion scene stands today. “I think I’d love Manila to welcome a more refined, understated look,” he shared. “Everything I’ve been seeing is either so commercial or so street. I’d love to see more people who are — genuinely — understated, sensual, elegant, and chic. I don’t think people really know what that means.”

With such an eventful year, with MNL Fashion Week being the crown jewel of his year, there’s still a lot more in store for Chris Nick. “We have some very big international and local projects to come in 2026!” he exclaimed. “The soonest for 2025 would be the release of the CHRIS NICK SS26 campaign and a show in Kuala Lumpur this year in November.”

Viktor Turns Dystopian Narratives Into Wearable Art at MNL Fashion Week

“The future of humanity will be dictated by our ability to adapt.” With everything that’s happening in the world, from climate change to political upheavals, this quote from the 2017 Sci-Fi film “Blade Runner 2049” rings like an alarm in the abyss, making us wonder if what awaits us is a future that is dark, bleak, and terrible.

However, if there’s one thing Filipinos are known for, it's their resilience. This inspired Ino Caluza, the designer behind the well-known denim brand Viktor, to explore how a dystopic future can shape the way we dress and to prove that fashion can also adapt to its environment.

Last Oct. 16, the designer unveiled this bold concept at the Manila Fashion Week, showcasing several looks that combined precise tailoring with street-inspired grit. The “Dystopian Blues” collection was just as atmospheric and cinematic as the film it was inspired by, playing with various fabrics such as denim, leather, and wool to create structured jackets, blazers, skirts, and trousers. What transpired on the catwalk was a striking vision where rebellion, structure, and sophistication collide.

After the show, we got to speak with Ino to dig deeper into how this new collection portrays the evolution of his brand, and its ties to his own personal pursuits as a creative.

“I’m more of a visual person. The film cinematography and production design inspired me to do this collection as a sort of homage,” he told The Beat Manila, revealing the main inspiration for the collection was the film “Blade Runner 2049.” “With the current state of the world, such as the environmental impact of climate change, what types of clothes should we wear in the distant future? That was my thought when I created the collection.”

The designer further explained the fabrics used in the collection, revealing that dystopia can be translated as a feeling, so his choice of fabrics, such as leather, denim, and wool, represented the feeling of alienation, coldness, and protection against the elements.

“It’s a form of survival,” he emphasized. “The future might be bleak, but humans will evolve and manage to survive fashionably.”

As each model walked down the runway, his vision of creating a stylish apocalypse became a reality. From the set design down to the outfits, it transported the audience into an imagined, futuristic world where fashion became more than just outerwear, but an art that is both wearable and fascinating to examine.

When asked if there were any risks he took that felt exciting or terrifying, Ino answered, “Creating the mood, I guess. The mood or vibe of ‘Dystopian Blues’ reflects all the elements of the show, from the lighting, the stage design, the art installation, the models, the make-up, and even the Radiohead music soundtrack. Somehow, they complemented the bleak and cold atmosphere that we wanted to convey. At that time, I wasn’t sure if that would resonate with the guests when we first conceptualized the show, but it did!”

The looks were shadowed in hues of black, gray, blue, and indigo, but it was the styles and structures that made them eye-catching. The structured jackets seemed to be the highlight of the collection, showcasing a variety of designs in various patterns and cuts. Some were oversized leather pieces that swallowed the wearer but somehow still carried with finesse, while others had interesting design elements like billowing sleeves or clinched waists. The brand also soft-launched its underwear collection, which added another layer to the survival theme of the show.

When asked if he had a favorite look or one he considered encapsulated the theme best, the designer replied, “I can’t pick my favorites, but I must say the two opening looks of the show, the red leather jackets, the oversized jacket worn by Philippe, and the layered and textured look of Tyler are the standouts of the collection.”

Viktor has always been known for its denim pieces, which were a central element in Ino’s work as a designer and the brand. We asked about what draws him to the material, to which he revealed it was a personal preference and that it easily captures the essence of the brand he wanted to build — something that is practical but chic, rugged but structured.

“I’ve always loved denim as a material. Its versatility and practicality represent our brand. The more you use it, the better it gets. Plus, denim will never be out of fashion. It’s rugged and utilitarian, but can be casual and formal at the same time,” he shared. “Since I was a kid, I’ve always loved wearing jeans, and since fashion is the best form of self-expression, I was able to express my artistic side through it. Later on, with my career in graphic design, I decided to switch to making custom-made jeans because I realized that this is my real passion, and the rest is history!”

His passion bled through each design, displaying different cuts and styles of denim that make it look fresh and familiar at the same time. The designer shared that they applied a lot of new techniques for this show, such as pleating and faux chenille.

According to Ino, the red jacket was made of five fabrics sewn on top of each other, then sheared to expose all the different garments below, giving it that layered multi-color effect. On the other hand, the showstopper finale gown was made of strips of pleated fabrics sewn and pleated together for a textured look.

They also created custom-made denim flowers, a concept idea by his assistant designer, Will Mueco. Made from discarded denim fabrics, the flowers went through various manipulations and treatments and were transformed into beautiful and strange brooches. Not only was it a clever way to reduce fabric waste, but it was also on-theme, like how the designers thought to create their own flowers amid the rubble.

More than an entertaining feast for the eyes, Ino’s new collection showcased the brand itself, its evolution, and how it intends to maintain its reputation while also keeping things fresh and interesting in the years to come.

“Viktor’s been quietly evolving for the past few years. After the pandemic, the brand is not just doing custom-made jeans but has also increased its product lines to include custom-made suits, leather jackets, skirts, and shirts,” he explained. “For this show, we were simply showcasing what we do best: making tailored high-quality Japanese denims, leather jackets, and premium wool suiting.”

Denim is universally seen as a staple of wearable design — familiar, functional, and timeless. But transforming it into something that transcends the everyday can be a challenge. When asked how he walks the fine line between fashion, art, and wearability, he answered, “There is a thin line that separates those ideas. Viktor is always about practicality. Wearability is a big factor in designing our collection, from our custom-made cowboy shoes and combat boots — a collaboration we did with Tina Andres of Antonio Manila and Gibson's Shoe Factory — to the accessories. You know you’ve achieved a good balance when all your models are excited to wear the collections, which in itself is already a good sign that you’ve created something special.”

The designer also shared how traveling to Europe served as a good eye-opener, helping him envision and shape the future of the Viktor brand. His annual trips to Japan also gave him a better understanding of the materials and fabrications they should pursue and experiment with in order to create new designs and other unique elements and details that fit the brand’s DNA.

Although “Dystopian Blues” gave us shadowed looks in hues of black and indigo, the future of Viktor looks exceptionally bright, having mastered the art of balancing fashion with wearability. When asked what’s next for the brand, Ino replied, “I don’t know yet, but after this show, we are far more excited to develop and evolve the brand into the next decade.”

Walking to the beat of Maymay Entrata’s “Amakabogera,” Pinas Sadya’s Spring-Summer 2026 collection embodied the brand’s essence of a modern Kabogera — radiant, confident, and playful. Models walked the runway in pieces made with iconic Philippine weaves, delicate hand embroidery, and contemporary silhouettes, reflecting a perfect balance of heritage and tradition.

“Kabogera is your birthright,” said Skeeter Labastilla-Tugrut, Founder of Pinas Sadya. “You are born to shine, to stand out, and to achieve your best. This collection is meant to accompany you at different parts of your journey, as you discover, fulfill, and share your purpose.”

Through its “Kabogera With a Purpose” campaign, Pinas Sadya champions women who embrace their potential and individuality. The brand’s debut on the NYFW runway was made possible with Filipinxt, offering an opportunity to showcase Filipino design to an international audience.

Fellow designers such as Bitangcol, Style Ana, Bessie Besana, Ram Silva, and Project Runway Season 21 winner Veejay Floresca, also contributed to the showcase that celebrated Pinas Sadya’s DNA: joy, pride, and confidence.
