Formula 1 Returns to Asia for the 2022 Singapore Grand Prix
This weekend, the Formula 1 festival of speed returns to Asia after a COVID-19-enforced two-year absence. The 2022 Singapore Grand Prix will be held at the Marina Bay Sands circuit for the first time since 2019, where it has paved the way for F1 night races since 2008.
The event could hold special significance as it will be the first of the 2022 season where dominant title challenger, Max Verstappen, could tie-up up the driver's title. It's a long shot, as it would require Verstappen to win with his title-rival, Charles Leclerc, finishing ninth or lower (or eighth if Max also secures the fastest lap).
To celebrate the return to Asia, McLaren has unveiled a bespoke “Future Mode” car livery, adding bold neon pink accents and cyberpunk-style artwork to their familiar papaya orange livery. The Woking-based team states it “represents the emergence of new technologies from the region, with a look to the future inspired by the cityscapes of Singapore and Japan.”
The race takes place this Sunday, with "lights out and away they go!" at 8:00 PM HKT
