10 Essential Brunch Places in Bangsar Neighbourhood

Where to go for brunch in Bangsar KL

Brunch used to be the perfect solution to waking up early on Sundays. In 1895, "Punch" magazine officially recognized this, stating that "By eliminating the need to get up early on Sunday, brunch would make life brighter for Saturday-night carousers." Who said partying never amounted to anything?

Although times have changed, brunch has remained a beloved meal for over 100 years. It's easy, being two meals in one, and there is a tradition of brunches being plentiful.

In Malaysia, Bangsar has the best brunch spots in the city. If you're ever in the neighbourhood, The Beat KL recommends you visit any of these brunch joints. Start your day off right with a delicious pre-lunch dub.

Lisette’s Café and Bakery

One of Bangsar’s finest has always been Lisette’s. The store’s logo might as well be a guarantee that you will have a good time. They got the memo on what makes it worth waking up a little later than usual: varied food selections, beautiful interiors, and endless pastries. This is what brunch should look, taste, and feel like.

Location: Lisette’s Café and Bakery, No. 8, Jalan Kemuja, Bangsar

Botanica+Co Alila Bangsar

Seeing this on Botanica’s socials got us thinking: they really do this. The branch in Bangsar South is a brunch paradise, the food is copious that keeps the conversations flowing. You will find old Malaysian favourites here, but with a welcome twist. But the highlight here is the interiors. They got the vibe of the pre-lunch crowd down to the smallest detail. Plain and simple, you will have a good time here.

Location: Botanica+Co Alila BangsarGround Floor at Alila Bangsar, No 58, Jalan Ang Seng

Antipodean

Any of Antipodean’s branches in KL takes after the tradition of old European cafes, which is to say that it wants to be a meeting place. Seeing that you can bring your whole group here and be seated without any issue, the café does right by its motto. This is not even mentioning that they know how to make good coffee, as Antipodean has been competing in barista contests for a long time. The food takes on European tastes but know that you will find familiar stuff on their menu.

Location: Antipodean, 20, Jalan Telawi 2, Bangsar

PODGY

PODGY in Lorong Kurau is the definition of a chill hangout place. It is a neighbourhood café, and it reflects how the owners created the style of the place. It also caters to a sit-down crowd who values a slow pace more than anything. All of these make it a potential go-to café whenever you are out in Bangsar.

Location: PODGY, 20, Jalan Telawi 2, Bangsar

VCR

VCR in Bangsar is a millennial’s milieu in every way possible. From the fusion cuisine to the high-contrast interiors, everything here is beautiful. But it is never on the nose, which is to say that the best features of the café and the menu fly under the radar. Rest assured, though, that the food is to die for, and the coffee is officially one of the best in the world.

Location: VCR, 31, Jalan Telawi 3, Bangsar

Marmalade

Following the trend of millennial-friendly brunch spots, Marmalade is meant for slow Sundays. Even if you want that slow Sunday vibe to be your regular Tuesday. It is a family-friendly place, which they even indicate in their socials, so do not be afraid to bring your aunts and uncles here. The fare also errs on the side of tradition, so there is no need to think too much about the food. It is comfort food for everyone.

Location: Marmalade, Level 1, Bangsar Village II

POKOK

Bear with us here. POKOK is not in Bangsar, although it is just a short way away. But where else are you going to find a brunch spot where the area both offers garden seating and an indoor, light-filled space? This place is a must-visit because it is beautiful. You can expect the menu to be full of brunch favourites, as well as some traditional Malaysian fare.

Location: POKOK, MAHSA Avenue (Jalan Universiti Campus), Block B, Level 1 Jalan Ilmu

PULP

Just like most of the entries here, PULP in Bangsar has seating for everyone. But it does not mind if you are an on-the-go person. They do have an impressive collection of bottled cold brew, which is just as nice as the coffees on sale for indoor diners. Speaking of coffee, this place takes its coffee making more seriously than most places being PPP’s flagship café. The food matches that quality, too.

Location: PULP, 29-01 Jalan Riong, Bangsar

Breakfast Thieves

Talk about being tailor-made for brunch. It is even in their name: Breakfast Thieves. This place is a true respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Nature is all around you as you eat your bountiful orders and good coffee (of course, there is good coffee).

Location: Breakfast Thieves, Lot M, 29-5, Jalan Riong, Bangsar

Urban Daybreak

KL’s brunch joints rarely put a foot wrong, and Urban Daybreak follows that rich tradition. You can read, eat, socialise, and pet a few furry friends during your visit to this easy-going café. Much like the entries in this list, Urban Daybreak serves good food, good coffee, and a nice ambiance. What more could you need for your brunch?

Location: Urban Daybreak, 11, Jalan Telawi 5, Bangsar

South Korean Bakery Tous les Jours to Re-Enter Malaysia in 2025

After its abrupt closure of all four Tous les Jours branches in Malaysia in 2017, the French-Asian-inspired bakery is making its comeback.

South Korean artisanal bakery chain Tous les Jours is set to re-enter Malaysia, opening five new stores by the end of 2025. Its parent company, CJ Foodville, has signed a master franchise deal with local distributor Stream Empire Holdings.

The first store, set to open in the second quarter of 2025, will be at Sunway Pyramid Mall, while the second branch will be at Sunway Velocity Mall. According to Stream Empire Holdings’ General Manager Ho Soo Ling, “The third one is almost secured, and we are sourcing locations for the fourth and fifth, which are still under negotiation.”

CJ Foodville said that they will use the supply chain and knowledge gained from operating in Indonesia, a country requiring halal-certified catering, to boost its expansion in Malaysia and the rest of Southeast Asia.

Tous les Jours first opened in Kuala Lumpur in June 2013. After only four years, the South Korean bakery chain announced the closure of all its branches in Malaysia in 2017. Currently, Tous les Jours operates more than 500 outlets internationally, including branches in the United States, Canada, China, Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines.

Tous les Jours offers a selection of “French-Asian-inspired” pastries, baked goods, and beverages, originating from South Korea.
