While Kuala Lumpur is known for its bustling city life with impressive architecture and stunning luxury malls, sometimes you just need to get away to sandy shores and turquoise waters, and get that much-needed R&R.

Luckily, the Malaysian coastlines offer some of the most beautiful beaches and for this list, we’re giving you six of the best beaches that are just under two hours away from Kuala Lumpur! On top of that, they all operate twenty-four hours a day and have no entrance fees.

Whether you’re craving a peaceful retreat or a fun seaside adventure with the whole family, these beach destinations promise the perfect coastal escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Blue Lagoon Beach

Tanjung Biru (Blue Lagoon) got its nickname for its stunning emerald and deep blue waves, which makes it a great place to go snorkeling. The beach is a secluded bay at the base of Cape Rachado adjacent to Pantai Cermin, and is located along Port Dickson, a ten-mile coastline just an hour and a half drive from the city.

This small crescent-shaped beachfront boasts lush jungles (it’s close to Tanjung Tuan Forest Reserve), a well-maintained beach dotted with picnic spots, and calm waters ideal for water sports such as stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking. If you’re looking for a chill beach destination where you can enjoy campfires, go banana boating with friends, or explore sand banks and crab holes with your kids, this is it.

Location: Tanjung Biru, Port Dickson 71050

Saujana Beach

Another favorite family spot and perfect for campers is Pantai Saujana which is situated along the fourth mile of Port Dickson. It has a wide and spacious coastline, which makes it a popular kite-flying spot.

The beach boasts a central location too, being nestled right next to a resort and the entrance opposite the Sunday Night Market. There are also various facilities such as playgrounds, changing rooms, gazebos, restrooms, and food market vendors, so it’s easy and convenient to spend a full day here.

Location: Negeri Sembilan, Port Dickson 71050

Morib Beach

Situated near the town of Klang, Pantai is only about an hour and fifteen minutes from Kuala Lumpur and is one of the closest beach destinations on this list, making it an ideal spot for day trips. Despite being popular among locals and tourists, it’s still quite comfortable and uncrowded, especially on weekdays. It’s a great place for a relaxing stroll along the shores with your loved ones or to simply lounge by the sands and enjoy a stunning sunset view.

The beachfront has a recreation park where guests can have picnics or go camping. There are also plenty of restaurants and food stalls in the area, as well as opportunities to participate in beach sports like volleyball, kite-flying, and golf at the Sri Morib Golf Club. The beach has ample parking spaces but take note that it can get crowded on weekends and holidays. There are also several resorts in the area, including Gold Coast Morib which has a water theme park.

Due to its gorgeous beach and convenient amenities, it’s one of the more popular beach destinations so yes, it can get packed during the weekends or public holidays.

The beach is well-maintained and is lined with food stalls and restaurants selling local fares. You can enjoy your meal at one of the open huts, tables, and chairs which are available for rent twenty-four hours a day. There’s also a variety of recreational activities to try from windsurfing and jet skiing to parasailing. Whether you’re looking for a water adventure or a relaxing beach getaway, Teluk Kemang Beach has something for everyone.

Location: Jalan Pantai eight, Port Dickson 71050

Bagan Lalang Beach

This picturesque beach is home to several local and international resorts and hotels and is known for its “ikan bakar (barbecued fish)" sold at the beachfront food courts. Located in Sepang district, this beach is the closest to the capital and is only about an hour's drive from the city. It’s also only 30 kilometers away from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), so it’s also a great spot to pass the time while you wait for your flight.

Pantai Bagan Lalang offers a wide range of amenities such as designated swimming areas, restrooms, and beachside stalls. Several lifeguards can also be seen on duty along the coastlines for safety and visitors can participate in various fun activities like horseback riding and camping. The beach’s waves are also quite gentle here so it’s great for novice surfers and other water sports.

If you’re up for a little more adventure, you can also visit the nearby fishing village, Tanjung Sepat, twenty minutes away from the beach where you can experience some local culinary delights.

Location: Batu 3, Jalan Pantai, Kampung Bagan Pinang, Port Dickson 71000

Cahaya Negeri Beach

Also located near Port Dickson, Pantai Cahaya Negeri is known for its vast sandy shores, clear waters, and scenic views, making it an ideal spot for swimming or sunbathing. This beach houses a wide range of resorts and hotels to choose from and features an artificial cape with a recreational park lined with picnic gazebos, making it a hotspot for camping and barbecuing. The waves here are also great for water sports, fishing, and boating.

Its main highlight, however, is the small mangrove island called, “Pulau Burung,” connected to it via a long wooden bridge, which visitors can stroll through on foot during low tide. There’s also a boardwalk on the island that leads to a platform where you can go up a watchtower and witness a panoramic view of Port Dickson’s gorgeous coastline.

Air Asia to Launch Flights to Bahrain and London This June

Air Asia PlanePhoto by AirAsia/Website

Dreaming of seeing Big Ben, the iconic red buses, and the Tower of London? AirAsia is set to turn that dream into reality as the airline confirms the launch of its Kuala Lumpur–London route, with a stopover in Bahrain, beginning June 26, 2026.

AirAsia X (AAX) Berhad recently marked a major milestone in its global expansion with the announcement of two much-anticipated international routes, connecting Kuala Lumpur to Bahrain and onward to London Gatwick Airport (KUL-BAH-LGW). The Bahrain–London sector will be AAX’s second Fifth-Freedom route, signaling the airline’s move beyond its Asian home base as it expands its reach in the global budget travel market. These routes also establish Bahrain as AAX’s first global hub, making it a key gateway between Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Europe.

“This is a defining step in the next phase of AAX’s growth. Bahrain, as our strategic aviation hub, allows us to connect Asia with the Middle East and Europe more effectively while creating a scalable platform for future growth,” said Tony Fernandes, CEO of Capital A and Advisor to AAX.

With the launch of this route, AirAsia X is now flying to more than 150 destinations worldwide, redefining both its short-haul and long-haul travel by combining low-cost efficiency, strategic partnerships, and hub-based connectivity. The new KUL-BAH-LGW will operate with AAX’s A330 fleet, with Kuala Lumpur as its major gateway, connecting travelers from Australia, Indonesia, Vietnam, and other key markets while creating a more affordable and convenient pathway to Bahrain and London.

To celebrate this milestone, AAX is offering introductory first-come, first-served promotional fares from RM99* and RM199* all-in-one way from Kuala Lumpur to Bahrain and London, with subsequent fares starting from RM299* and RM399* on both sectors. Guests can also travel on the airline’s award-winning Premium Flatbed from RM2,999* all-in one way on both sectors for an elevated in-flight experience.

You can book your flights until Feb. 22 for the travel period between June 26 and Nov. 30, 2026, on airasia.com and the AirAsia MOVE app.

Kuala Lumpur’s Iconic Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad Reopens to the Public

One of Kuala Lumpur’s most beloved treasures has finally been restored.

The Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad, a late 19th-century building at Dataran Merdeka, has officially reopened to the public on Feb. 2, 2026, following an 11-month restoration, welcoming visitors back into its storied walls.

The reopening marks the return of Block 1 of the historic complex along Jalan Raja, which had been closed as part of conservation works and restoration efforts under the Warisan KL initiative.

Originally known as the Secretariat Building and for housing the superior courts of Malaysia, namely the Federal Court of Malaysia, the Court of Appeals, and the High Court of Malaya, the historical structure has long been a part of Malaysia’s national story.

It was the site of Malaysia’s first flag-raising ceremony in 1957 and later became the place where independence and national day celebrations take place. Since 2007, the word “Merdeka” has been fixed at the bottom of the clock tower, a reminder of the country’s independence and the building’s cultural importance for Malaysia.

With its 41-metre-high clock tower, Moorish-inspired architecture, and 95-metre flagpole, the Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad remains a central feature of Kuala Lumpur’s cultural landscape. The restoration not only aims to preserve its heritage but also aims to boost tourism and enhance its overall safety and accessibility.

The reopening allows visitors to experience the landmark beyond its original administrative role, now as a historical site and as a breathing, living part of Kuala Lumpur’s city life.

The Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad Complex will see the openings of immersive exhibition spaces and galleries, retail and craft stores, food and beverage outlets, and more in the coming months.

Learn more about the Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad by visiting the website and following their Instagram.

Malaysia to Get New Passport & MyKad with Enhanced Features

Malaysia Passport 1Photo by Immigration Department of Malaysia/Website

Malaysia is getting a fresh look for its passport and national ID (MyKad), with redesigned versions expected to roll out within the next six months.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail shared the update with reporters following the Home Ministry’s 2026 Ministerial Address last Thursday (Jan. 8, 2026). According to him, the new passport and MyKad will come with enhanced security features, boosting both their reliability and overall integrity. The initiative also coincides with the Home Ministry’s strategic direction for 2026 and is one of the Visit Malaysia Year initiatives that aims to strengthen border control and immigration measures nationwide.

With Malaysian passports ranked the third most trusted in the world for visa-free travel, the Home Minister emphasized that renewing them is crucial to maintaining the country's international standing.

“These milestones are important as our current passport ranks third in terms of trust, allowing Malaysian passport holders to travel with minimal visa requirements. Yesterday, I was briefed by the Immigration director general, together with the chief secretary, on the credibility of our passport. We aim to have a new-look passport for Malaysians within six months,” he said.

The new-look passports and enhanced identity cards are expected to be implemented at the end of the second quarter or the start of the third quarter this year. According to Malay Mail, the minister assured that existing passports and MyKad will continue to remain valid until their expiry.

“Continue using your current documents until they reach their expiry. Replacements will only be necessary at that time. Details on the implementation schedule, updated features, and additional announcements will be provided in due course,” he said.

He also mentioned that there’s no need for the public to rush to the offices to apply, as the public will be informed about six months in advance.

For updates, stay tuned to the Malaysia Government website. You can also follow them on Facebook and X (Formerly Twitter).

Carousel CoPhoto by Carousel & Co.

Kuala Lumpur’s social scene is about to level up as global skills-game powerhouse HB Leisure (HBL) launches Malaysia’s first-ever social entertainment venue, built for the booming trend of “competitive socializing.”

Nestled in a tech-enhanced rooftop setting at Avenue K, Carousel & Co. is an all-in-one destination where guests are invited to eat, drink, and challenge one another across large-format skill games in a highly immersive venue inspired by the golden age of fairgrounds.

The place is set up like a modern carnival, with a show-stopping Carousel Bar at the center serving handcrafted cocktails and easy, shareable bites. It’s built for groups, turning the usual night out into a fun, interactive hangout with different zones to explore, cool design details, and upgraded food and drinks. Whether you’re planning a work event or just looking for a new after-work spot, Carousel & Co. mixes relaxed social dining with the energy and playful competition of carnival games — perfect for unwinding, celebrating, or just having a good time.

“Malaysia’s social scene is evolving beyond dining and nightlife. Carousel & Co. brings the next phase — an experience that celebrates connection, creativity and competition,” said Greg Pearn, Head of New Concepts at HBL. “We wanted to capture that nostalgic carnival feeling but reimagine it for adults — where the games are bigger, the cocktails bolder and the laughter louder. We’re combining our 100-year heritage in theme park skill-based entertainment with Kuala Lumpur’s growing appetite for quality, playful experiences.”

Carousel & Co. marks HBL’s big debut in Malaysia’s lifestyle and entertainment scene, and it’s built with both scalability and future franchise potential across Southeast Asia in mind. The venue blends tech-enabled play with group-friendly design. Think digital scoring woven into every corner and spaces made for teams, gatherings, and social hangouts. Guests can look forward to modern twists on classic skill games like Down-The-Clown, Skeeball, and Basketball, all enhanced with real-time scoring that keeps the energy high and the competition fun. Those looking to use it as an event space can peruse its available private spaces, which can accommodate groups from eight to 115 people.

“Avenue K is exactly the right kind of playground for what we’re building,” added Greg. “It’s at the center of the city’s heartbeat, where business types, shoppers and travelers all cross paths. Carousel & Co. will fit right in by giving people a spot to have a drink, take a bite to eat, share a laugh and sneak in a little friendly competition along the way.”

No official opening date has been announced, but it’s expected to welcome guests sometime in December. Tickets at Carousel and Co. start from RM60, and tables can be booked here.

From River Views to Urban Vibes: JI Hotels Expand Across Southeast Asia

11Photo by H World Group

In a region where boutique stays and luxury towers compete for attention, JI Hotel is carving out its own lane rooted in simplicity, cultural nuance, and a kind of understated elegance that feels more like home than hospitality. Now, with new locations opening in Kuala Lumpur and Phnom Penh, H World Group is bringing its signature blend of “oriental aesthetics meets modern comfort” to the heart of Southeast Asia’s most vibrant cities.

This expansion builds on the brand’s proven success in the region, including the JI Hotel Orchard Road in Singapore, which recently celebrated its sixth anniversary, while its popularity among both business and leisure guests has helped solidify JI Hotel’s reputation as a go-to for affordable luxury with cultural flair.

Each new hotel will feature the brand’s latest JI Hotel 5.0 design, combining clean lines, warm textures, and intuitive tech. Earlier in September, the Taiwan Tourism Administration’s Kuala Lumpur office teamed up with beloved Malaysian illustrator Jayee Lim to launch the “WOW Taiwan” vehicle advertisement campaign. This isn’t your average tourism promo because 200 ride-hailing cars and 12 double-decker buses are now canvassing the Klang Valley and Kota Kinabalu, decked out in vibrant designs that celebrate Taiwan’s natural beauty and cultural charm.

The campaign marks the first time Taiwan’s tourism push has reached Sabah, signaling a broader embrace of Malaysian travelers. At the launch, Deputy Representative James Buu from TECO Malaysia emphasized Taiwan’s commitment to showcasing its rich culture through fresh, creative avenues. Malaysia Airlines is set to strengthen its South India network, adding more frequencies to the Kuala Lumpur-Trivandrum route following encouraging load factors and sustained demand.

Starting Sept. 12, 2025, the airline will be introducing a fifth weekly service before moving towards a daily service from Dec. 1, 2025. Tickets for the new frequencies are now available for booking across Malaysia Airlines’ official channels and appointed travel partners.
