South Korean Pianist Yekwon Sunwoo to Open Macao Orchestra's Concert Season

Macao Orchestra's 2023-24 Concert Season is upon us!
The season will open this Sept. 2 and will kick off with the concert "Lio Kuokman and Macao Orchestra.” It stars the accomplished South Korean classical pianist Yekwon Sunwoo and will be conducted by Macao Orchestra Director Lio Kuokman.
This year's concert season is a celebration of the 150th anniversary of Russian composer and pianist Sergei Rachmaninoff's birth, with Lio at the helm, according to a press release by the Cultural Affairs Bureau on Aug. 21.
This is Yekwon's first time collaborating with the Macao Orchestra. A gold medal winner at the prestigious 15th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, he will be playing Rachmaninoff's seminal work, "Piano Concerto No. 2," at the concert.
Lio, on the other hand, will conduct the orchestra in its performance of Dmitri Shostakovich's "Festive Overture," Rachmaninoff's "Vocalise," and Richard Strauss' "Der Rosenkavalier Suite."
