Bokeem Woodbine Relaunches 13 Purple Dragons Band With a Show in Manila

A crazy idea has transformed into a remarkable reality as Hollywood actor Bokeem Woodbine reignites his music career with his band, 13 Purple Dragons, marking the beginning of their journey in Manila. Their upcoming show on Aug. 19 at the Newport Performing Arts Theatre promises to be an unforgettable experience.
Bokeem Woodbine, renowned for his roles in films and television projects such as "Fargo," "Halo," "The Inspection," and "Old Dads," takes on the roles of lead vocalist and lead guitarist in 13 Purple Dragons. Joining him are the band's newest members, Melchizedek Diggs on bass and Tobias Breon Richardson on drums. Together, they are determined to revive the spirit of rock 'n' roll.
During a press conference in Manila on Aug. 15, Bokeem shared, "It's our mission to reignite the passion for rock 'n' roll, and there's no better place to begin this journey than right here in Manila. We're incredibly honored to be here."
Reflecting the essence of their music, 13 Purple Dragons combines elements of magic and power, seamlessly transitioning from one stage to another. Bokeem candidly acknowledges that the band's name can be interpreted in various ways, much like how they break barriers and merge genres to create a unique rock sound.
After their Manila show this weekend, where they will share the stage with local rock bands Franco and Razorback, personally chosen by the band members, 13 Purple Dragons plans to release their album, "Trials & Victories of the Rock 'n' Roll, Kung Fu Space Man," before the year ends.
Bokeem admits that he never imagined he would pick up his guitar again after years of focusing on his acting career. However, as he rediscovered his passion for music, performing a few gigs here and there alongside his acting commitments, he believes this iteration of the band is their best yet. He is now ready to embrace and embody the rock 'n' roll spirit within him.
