Fusion 2025 Heralds a New Era for Original Pilipino Music for 10th Edition

OPM is alive, and Fusion 2025 marked the beginning of a new era of Original Pinoy Music to look forward to.
Fusion: The Philippine Music Festival is the Philippines’ first-ever Music Festival highlighting stellar Filipino acts that best represent our OPM scene. Celebrating its 10th year with the theme, “Musika Natin ‘To!,” Fusion organizers called on festivalgoers and fans of OPM to continue uplifting OPM with pride and to celebrate this milestone with them.
Marking their 10th year last Mar. 15, 2025, at the CCP Open Grounds in Pasay City, Fusion truly was more than a concert; it was an immersive experience and a fusion of Filipino pop culture, interactive art, and local flavors all in one.
The Beat Manila was there to witness Manila’s hottest music festival, jampacked with rising stars, powerhouse acts, and high-spirited energy from the festivalgoers, and will be highlighting all of its unforgettable moments.
The Philippines’ Rising Indie Stars: A Fresh Wave of Talent to Look Forward To
The festival started with a showcase of the Philippines’ rising indie and slow mellow rock scene, with Carissa kicking the show off with her performances of her songs “360” and “Pwede Ba." Her set was followed by Better Days — a duo band consisting of Nigel Aboy and Nim Garcia, who performed “Nararamdaman” and "Babe."
Indie pop/rock band The Vowels They Orbit followed the cool and smooth vibe left by Better Days, performing their tracks “Selos” and “Kiliti.”
The energy started picking up when 1st One took to the stage with their songs “Paalam Na,” and “Wala Ng Iba (Soul Version).”
Their set was followed by alt-pop singer-songwriter Amiel Sol, who performed his heartfelt songs “Sa Bawat Sandali,” “Ikaw Lang ang Patutunguhan,” and “Ngayon at Kailanman,” leading couples — even romantic singles — to resonate deeply with his songs.

RAYA, a rising girl group whose name was inspired by the Filipino word “hiraya,” impressed the crowd with their covers, performing their own twist to classic Filipino faves Hotdog’s “Bongga Ka Day!,” Sarah Geronimo’s “Kilometro,” and Pop Girls’ “Prinsesa.”
GAT, another new name to the P-Pop industry, also wowed the crowd with their rendition of “Marikit,” “Huwag Ka Nang Humirit,” and the theme song to the newest Filipino pop culture phenomenon, “Ang Mutya ng Section E,” “Daleng Dale.”
Following on the energy left by two rookie P-Pop groups, Pauline Anne performed her songs “Paulit-ulit,” and “Notice,” the song that led her and her band to win the Fusion 2023 Battle of the Bands competition. During her set, she also performed an unreleased track titled “Lullaby,” which she described as “about asking someone to stay.”
Fusion 2025 also witnessed fierce performances from Al Lipaopao, Nica Jañola, Jovie Loon, MJ Parasan, and Jan Francis from the KWC Artists. Jan was later joined by BNK 48 member Yayee, who performed her song “Coming for You."

The Main Event: A Decade of Music and Energy
The energy of the festival grew to an ultimate high when hip-hop boy group ALLMO$T took the stage, hyping the crowd with their fan-favorite songs, “Bagay Tayo,” “Dalaga,” “Miracle Nights,” and “Di Nila Alam.” They also performed their viral hit single, “Boyfriend,” which got the crowd jumping to their addicting beats.
They were followed by a performance by Filipino rock icon Barbie Almalbis, who performed some Filipino rock classics like “Overdrive,” “Awit ng Bagong Taon,” “Say Goodbye,” “and “Torpe.” She also got the crowd roaring with awe when she stunned everyone with a suave guitar solo, and even performed a new song titled, “Homeostasis.”

ALAMAT, a prominent P-Pop boy group known for drawing inspiration from Filipino folklore and traditions, shifted the mood from rock to R&B and high-energy tracks, first performing their smooth track “Noli,” then followed with their recently released track “Hiraya.” They switched it up with their performance of “Sa Panaginip na Lang,” and even stepped offstage for fan service. They closed their set with a performance of “Day and Night,” and a fan-favorite track, “Maharani.”
Maki, one of the much-awaited artists for Fusion 10, came on stage and delivered a roller coaster of emotions through his songs, “Kailan?” “Namumula,” and his newest song, “Bughaw.” Maki also brought Paolo and Miguel from Ben&Ben on stage with him, beginning a roster of surprises for the night. Before ending his set with his songs “Dilaw” and “Saan?,” he teased that he would be releasing a “warmer” version of “Dilaw,” and his upcoming album, “KolorCoaster,” with seven more colors waiting to be revealed.

Pop and alternative rock band The Itchyworms followed and came on stage, taking the crowd on a nostalgic trip with their songs “Penge Naman Ako Niyan,” beerhouse karaoke song staple “Beer,” sentimental track “Di Na Muli,” and love song “Akin Ka Na Lang.”
“Rising Girl Group of the Year” in 2024 KAIA took to the stage afterwards, energizing the audience with their heart-pumping songs “Blah Blah,” “You Did It,” “Dalawa,” “Walang Biruan,” and “Turn Up.” They also teased their upcoming single, “Tanga,” which is set for release on Mar. 28, 2025, and teased that they have more new music in the works.
As the night went on, the crowd’s energy levels didn’t change. Hitmaker Zack Tabudlo serenaded the crowd with his songs “Gusto,” “Give Me Your Forever,” and “Paano.” He also performed his newest song, “Diving,” for the first time live.
Indie pop alternative rock band December Avenue fueled emotions further following Zack Tabudlo’s set, delivering emotional performances of “Kahit Di Mo Alam,” “Bulong,” crowd favorite “Huling Sandali,” and “Sa Ngalan ng Pag-Ibig,” which included a special duet with Barbie Almalbis.
Fusion 10’s final headliner, Ben&Ben, closed the night with a hopeful, well-rounded set that embodied OPM’s future. They started their set with “Ride Home,” serenaded the crowd with “Sa Susunod na Habang Buhay,” sang one of their newest songs “Tomorrow With You,” and ended with their love songs, “Araw-Araw” and “Paninindigan Kita,” complete with a collab stage with Maki and a beautiful fireworks display.
From Stage to Backstage: A Quick Chat with Maki and KAIA
Soon after their high-energy performances and dynamic sets, The Beat Manila was able to catch Maki and KAIA for a quick backstage interview. Still running on their high from their sets, they shared their thoughts on performing on the Fusion 10 stage, and where they think the Philippine music scene is heading in the future.
How does it feel to be a part of a music festival celebrating Filipino music?
Maki: It’s always a celebration. Para sa akin, diba ang saya 'yung mga ganito (For me, aren't these a lot of fun)? (pointing to the stage) [It’s] not just singing; Ako, I’m just really honored that I get to sing in front of the people, but also really fun to attend these kinds of events cause we get to know more about OPM. From the classics, the new ones, and from the chart-toppers at the moment.
KAIA (Angela): We’re very happy and we’re very grateful to be a part again of Fusion Manila cause last year nag-perform din po kami sa (we also performed in) Cebu with matching firework displays, and nag-debut rin po yung single namin na “Walang Biruan,” and ngayon naman nag-debut naman si (we debuted our single "Walang Biruan" then, and now we debuted our newest single) “Tanga,” which is written by Zack Tabudlo. We’re very happy to be a part of this event and na kasama naming yung mga (to be with these) amazing artists. Thank you so much, Fusion!
With Fusion celebrating its 10th anniversary, where do you envision the Philippine music scene heading in the future?
Maki: We’re gonna thrive. Kasi ngayon ang OPM (Cause right now [everyone in] OPM), we work very, very hard, and it’s just at the right time, at the right place, you know? Lahat nagsa-sanib pwersa. Even yung mga peers namin, yung mga bago, and of course yung mga talagang legends na, yung mga veterans na sa ganitong (Everyone is fusing all their energies together. Even our peers, newer talents, and of course, those legends, the veterans in this) industry, you know, we also get to talk to them and learn new things from them. So, I think it’s the best time to support OPM because we’re gonna thrive, after 5 years, I think, lalabas at lalabas na ang OPM (OPM will truly shine). You know, what I dream about is we get to sing our songs in our own language kahit umabot siya ng international, ‘tas nagta-Tagalog tayo (and make it reach international fame, and we're speaking in Tagalog), or every dialect in the Philippines. ‘Yun talaga sana ang mangyari (I really hope that happens).
KAIA (Angela): Malaki po yung nakikita naming (We see a big [future]) for OPM, lalo na po sa mga (especially for) P-Pop groups. We’re very thankful to all groups who are working hard para po makilala ang P-Pop (so that P-Pop will gain more recognition), and P-Pop is rising, actually nakikita na natin siya all over the world paunti-unti (we're seeing it all over the world little by little), small steps but we’ll get there.
KAIA (Charlotte): Probably may mga foreigners na dadayo na rin sa Philippines for the music festival, sa mga ganitong festival. Dadami (Probably, more foreigners will travel to the Philippines to attend our music festivals, these festivals. There'll be more [of them]) actually. Hopefully!
KAIA (Sophia): Actually we’re very thankful to Fusion na nakakapag-organize po sila ng ganitong events kasi (cause they have organized these events because) it’s an outlet for OPM and P-Pop to promote their talents, share their talents and yeah, more blessings for Fusion and Praxis, and sana ma-invite po kami sa (hopefully we get invited again for) Fusion 11, and 12, 13, 14.
What’s next for KAIA?
KAIA (Angela): Sa bahay! (jokes) Kidding aside, or walang biruan (no joke), we’re preparing for our upcoming first EP, na two years na naming ‘tong binabanggit (that we've been mentioning for two years already).
KAIA (Charlotte): Pero this time, mangyayari na siya (But this time, it's really happening), guys!
KAIA (Angela): Mangyayari na talaga siya kasi (It's really happening cause) we’re currently working on it, we’re doing our best, talagang nagb-brainstorm kami, ano yung mga songs na ilalagay sa EP namin, and included yung “Tanga” na nag-debut sa event na ‘to (we've been brainstorming, which songs we're going to include in our EP, and we included "Tanga," which debuted in this event). Makikita niyo ang different sides ng KAIA, we’ll tell our stories, experiences through our music, kaya sana ma-suportahan niyo po ang upcoming EP namin (You'll witness the different sides to KAIA, we'll tell our stories, experiences through our music, so we hope that you will support our upcoming EP)!
