Find Peace in Nature With These New Therapeutic Gardens in Singapore
Singapore may be known for its dazzling cityscapes, but its greenery is also as breathtaking. This is further proven with the opening of three new Therapeutic Gardens, courtesy of the government agency National Parks.
The new gardens are located at the Yishun Pond Park and Sembawang Park, the first two locations of the therapeutic gardens in north Singapore. The third garden is located at the Sun Plaza Park in Tampines.
The Yishun Pond Park garden is built in close consultation with and adjacent to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital. The 1,900-square-metre space features therapeutic horticulture and rehabilitative activities that suit recovering patients and their families.
Meanwhile, the Therapeutic Garden in Sembawang Park spans 2,200 square metres and is the second largest in Singapore. It features an Active and Passive Zone for various activities for people with special needs, plus a Forest Classroom and a Natural Playscape area for children.
The Sun Plaza Park garden, on the other hand, boasts a wide variety of palms, aroids, and other lush trees and plants across its 1,700-square-metre space. There’s also an activity area with a maze made from upcycled tree logs to help improve concentration.
With the addition of these three gardens, National Park’s Therapeutic Gardens in Singapore now totals to 13, including those located at the Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park, the Jurong Lake Gardens, and the Punggol Waterway Park, among others.
National Parks’ Therapeutic Gardens are designed based on scientific research to help people interact with nature. By 2030, the agency plans to have 30 therapeutic gardens across the country.
