In Tune with La Mamies French House DJ Collective Defining Parisian Music

In the daytime, Asia embraces a true hustle culture; by night, we let our hair down and erupt in a magnificent energy to good crowds and good music. In Tune with meets the electric DJs and music makers of Hong Kong and Asia to feel their pulse and uncover why they entered the frenetic nightlife industry.

Say hello to La Mamie's, a powerful Paris-based collective of DJs and event organizers founded in 2007 by six friends with a passion for vinyl and free-spirited parties. The purveyors of house music and good vibes have spread the love to over 300 organised solo or group performances and have become a significant force in shaping Paris' flourishing music scene.

Joined by Mr. Clou Clou, Greg, Wito, and Theo, the foursome has performed nationally and abroad, spinning tracks at Weather Festival in Paris, Wonderfruit in Thailand, The Pickle Factory in London, and Shi Fu Miz in Hong Kong.

Co-organising the legendary Cheung Chau Island festival, the French group infuse reggae, jazz, avid, disco, and drum’n’bass into their boundary-pushing sets for wicked parties. The Beat Asia caught up with Clou Clou on the eve of their mega-appearance at PITCH: ByTheBay in Repulse Bay to chat house music, how to create a good party, and Shi Fu Miz.

What was the aim of creating La Mamie’s when the group joined forces in 2007?

We wanted to organise crazy parties and bring vibes to atypical places in both France and overseas. A mutual passion for music was key to form La Mamie’s, specifically house music, which is strong in France and Europe.

What type of music do you wish to deliver to crowds in the west and eastern worlds?

For our sets and experiences, we seek to deliver good music for good crowds, from the West to the East, and from the South to the North. Paris is our home, but Hong Kong is where the heart lies too, and we love hosting parties there.

How can you make good house music?

House music is great when you have a balance with a good kick and good snares, melodies on point and a lot of grooves to hype up a crowd.

What does your show at PITCH mean for a roaring and hot nightlife scene in Hong Kong this year?

We hope our show at PITCH: ByTheBay will be one of the highlights of the Hong Kong scene this year, and that we can contribute to people dancing and having a good time.

How can Hong Kong best welcome French house music this year?

To help promote these kinds of events and the return of Shi Fu Miz festival in Cheung Chau Island in October for sure!

On the return of Shi Fu Miz festival in October 2023, what can we expect for Hong Kong’s finest electronic music festival?

Expect the finest of line ups of precedent editions, with a good balance between international, regional and local acts, an amazing space to dance and connect, a ‘bienveillant’ crowd, and a unique experience.
