All Aboard! Keretapi Sarong Returns This Year for Malaysia Day
To mark the joyous celebrations of Malaysia Day 2023 on Sept. 16, LOCCO is bringing back Keretapi Sarong, the annual flash mob event where Malaysians wear their best sarongs and board trains towards a secret location to commemorate the historic date.
This year’s theme is “Ethnicity,” reminding Malaysians participating in the event of their rich roots. It aims to showcase the country’s diverse culture, uphold Sarong as a symbol of unity, and encourage the use of public transportation among its citizens.
Like the previous celebrations, Keretapi Sarong 2023 will begin with a public gathering in various train stations across the country, followed by the boarding of trains where the attendees will be taken to the main location.
In the main venue, participants will be gifted with an array of live performances. They can also take part in traditional activities such as singing folk songs and playing games that define Malaysian culture.
There will be seven stations participating in this year’s celebration: the Ampang LRT, Gombak LRT, Bandar Utama MRT, Kajang MRT, Subang Jaya LRT, KL Sentral LRT, and Putrajaya Sentral stations.
The organiser also launched a Telegram group to encourage attendees going solo to share their plans for the event, gather with others, and make new friends there.
