Great news for bar hoppers! Now, you’ll get the chance to sip cocktails from four of Asia’s top bars — all in one night, all under one roof.
On October 29, Bangkok will be home to a high-proof pilgrimage: The Best of the Best Bar Crawl, hosted by The Standard, Bangkok Mahanakhon.
More than an average bar hop, it’s a curated collision of mixology, culture, and regional flair, featuring four award-winning bars from Asia’s 50 Best list.

Malaysian cocktail lovers shouldn’t be a stranger to Penang’s own Backdoor Bodega. Known for its irreverent “gift shop” branding and unapologetically local flavor profiles, the bar has earned cult status across Southeast Asia, as well as The Best Cocktail Menu in the World title at The World's 50 Best Bars 2025 award ceremony.
Founders Yung Shen Koh and Chia Wen Lok have built a reputation for turning Malaysian ingredients into bold, expressive drinks that speak to street culture and regional pride. At the crawl, Backdoor Bodega will take over Ojo, The Standard’s sky-high Mexican restaurant, serving up a menu that promises torch ginger, pandan, and tropical spice in every sip.
Joining them are three equally formidable names. Vender Bar (No. 74 Bar in the World 2025) from Taichung at Mott 32 Bangkok will bring Taiwanese flair and modern luxury to the table, while Stir Bar (No. 61 Bar in Asia 2025) from Ho Chi Minh will offer minimalist, clean cocktails that lean into quiet sophistication at Double Standard. Maltail Bar (No. 75 Bar in Asia 2025) from Kaohsiung rounds out the lineup with island-inspired pours and laid-back charm at Mott 32.

What makes this bar crawl even more impressive is that all stops are a rare feat for any hotel. Each venue channels a distinct elemental theme: earthy pours at Mott 32, fire-infused boldness at Double Standard, and airy, floral sips at Ojo Terrace, the highest rooftop bar in Bangkok.
Guests will receive a “passport” to navigate the crawl, starting at Double Standard. The ticket, priced at THB1,980 per person, includes four signature cocktails, bar bites at each venue, and two bonus drinks. The event will run from 7PM to 11PM on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.
For KL’s cocktail connoisseurs, it’s a rare chance to see Penang’s finest mix with Asia’s elite, all in one night, all in one city. Secure your seat now via Megatix.
Follow Backdoor Bodega on Facebook and Instagram, and The Standard, Bangkok Manhanakhon on Facebook and Instagram for cocktail previews and updates.

You feel it before you see it, the flicker of red light, the echo of a child’s laugh warped into something sinister, and the unmistakable scent of fog machines and fear. Welcome to Nights of Fright 11, where Sunway Lagoon’s beloved theme park transforms into a living nightmare, and this year, the strings are being pulled by a new master of horror: The Puppeteer.
Photo from Website/Sunway Lagoon
Running select nights through October until Nov. 2, 2025, Nights of Fright 11 (NOF11) is Malaysia’s premier Halloween scream-fest, and it’s back with more blood, screams, and twisted theatrics than ever before. Themed around the eerie world of puppetry and manipulation, this year’s edition invites thrill-seekers into a realm where marionettes don’t dance but hunt.
The event features eight haunted houses, each with its own spine-chilling narrative. From the grotesque “House of Dolls” to the cursed corridors of “The Asylum,” every maze is designed to disorient and terrify. Scare zones scattered across the park keep adrenaline levels high between attractions, while live performances and roaming scare actors ensure there’s no safe corner to hide.

But it’s not all screams and shadows. NOF11 also offers themed food stalls, horror-themed merchandise, and immersive photo ops for those brave enough to document their descent into darkness. The production value is cinematic, the scares are relentless, and the atmosphere is electric, making it a full-blown horror experience.
Nights of Fright 11 is only available Friday through Sunday, making each weekend a limited chance to face your fears. The Night Park opens from 6 PM to 11 PM, while the Theme Park operates from 10 AM for daytime thrills.

What if your next cultural escape doesn’t require a passport, and all it does is a movie ticket and a craving for stories that move the soul?
This September and October, the Japanese Film Festival 2025 (JFF) transforms Malaysia into a cinematic tasting room, serving up 13 films that explore food, memory, and the quiet magic of human connection. From the bustling heart of Klang Valley to the breezy charm of Kota Kinabalu, the festival rolls across five cities, inviting audiences to experience Japan through its most intimate lens of storytelling.

Organized by The Japan Foundation, Kuala Lumpur, JFF spans five cities, Klang Valley, Penang, Johor Bahru, Kuching, and Kota Kinabalu, screening at GSC cinemas for just RM10 a ticket. From pandemic-era healing in Sunset Sunrise to the mouthwatering journeys of Northern Food Story and The Solitary Gourmet, it's a feast for both heart and palate.

The festival is an immersive experience beyond the featured films. The “Omakase Film Course” curates a cinematic tasting menu of culinary stories, while special screenings on Sept. 10, 2025 at GSC MyTown feature live Q&As with film Director Tetsuya Uesugi. Film enthusiasts can also join a three-day filmmaking workshop led by Uesugi himself, diving into storytelling techniques and cross-cultural creativity.
For classic lovers, Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai returns in stunning 4K restoration, reminding us why Japanese cinema continues to inspire generations. And for fans of anime and youth drama, titles like Teasing Master Takagi-san and 366 Days round out a diverse lineup.
JFF also introduces a Stamp Rally that encourages the audience to watch more and win more. Simply collect stamps for each film and redeem exclusive gifts, with bonus prizes for attending partner festivals.
As a foodie, a film lover, or just someone curious about Japan’s cultural heartbeat, JFF is your alternative passport to a journey that offers cinematic and cultural richness.
